I'm a drummer, looking to have access to a recording studio to work with me with my drum and experimental percussion styles and ideas and using creating pieces that are perhaps ( "RUSH"esque). In other words the music revolving around my drum and percussion work as much as the other way around. I need to be able to dabble in the studio and use a keyboard. [/b]

I'm not looking for a free ride. Just some freedom to express without being choked necessarily by time and prices that are too far out of reach. I'm just asking for some help.

Although I don't know of any in your area, I would suggest looking at some "basement studios". Home jobbers. You generally won't get the results you would receive from a "Pro" studio, but it's probably not going to cost you what the pro does, either. I've recorded for $20 per hour before, and even though that's not cheap, think of it this way: The studio I currently go to is $50 per hour. $100 gets you (in the basement studio) five hours to "express yourself"-plenty of time to lay down a few good ideas, versus the "pro shop" ($50+ per hr), where $100 gets you 2 hours or less-and a lot of those places start timing you the second they start the soundcheck...you'll be lucky to get a full song down.
It sounds to me like you are looking for a cost efficient way to record yourself. My advice is to find a small place, save up a couple $$, and have at 'er.

It really doesn't cost that much to set up a DAW. And that is what all the studios around here use. Most are running XP pro on 1.5 to 3 gig machines. Even a standard sound card with two well placed mikes would show all the weaknesses of a group or players.

And if you get good enough to do live takes that don't make you cringe and want to hide behind something when you play them back, you are ready for studio time.
