I.m sure the Taliban are very happy today.
sha-la-la-la-la-la-la BOOM
Why do we continue to label people by race ???
Why cant she just be an AMERICAN WOMAN ???
( may be a song in there somewhere )
I guess I'm the first German-Bohemian-English American Man to ask that question.

Give me a freakin prize.

Please! Is the reason that she won due to her heritage? If not, then selebrate her individuality & her personal beauty. Otherwise, it just looks like we're pandering to a ppl that we could easilly defeat, & it's beneath us to do so.

Actually she's of Lebanese decent, nowhere near the Taliban (Afghanistan). Not all people of Arab heritage are terrorists.

Oh! Then we've already defeated them!

I don't get why such a big deal is made over one's roots. Are we celebrating her race, her state, or her person?

Wtg, MI, arabs & the parents of Rima!

Oh yeah...kudos to her as well...it almost seems an afterthought...

Yeah, I'm glad for her, I guess, if that's what she wants.
Sure it will make her prosperous even though she was most likely born into money to start with.
( the title Miss USA crown is not cheap to purchase )
I just detest all this hyphenated American bullshit.
If being just AMERICAN is not good enough for you, just get the hell out.

Of course I also detest "beauty contests".
Such a determent to the female gender.

All hail the mighty pole dancer.

Why would anyone describe a Miss America or Miss USA contestant by
nameing America as their secondary country? Wasn't she born here?

No Klug, she was born in Lebanon and brought to USA when a baby. She was raised in NYC and moved to Michigan in 2003.

I am so disappointed by the link...

How can you have a news article about Miss USA and NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF THE WOMAN!!!

Ok, Thanks JD. I still don't believe in calling anyone a Black American, Asian American, Whatever American. Seems to me like seperating Americans usually just starts some kind of trouble. Seperating ourselves within feeds the US and Them mentality. Unity can be our strongest asset if it becomes a reality.

It would be no different if she was born in Ireland or anywhere else and emmigrated to the US. The prefix tells the reader the person was born in another country and moved here. What is unnecessary is keeping the prefix even though you were born here. For example, most black people in the US are not African-Americans; their great-grandparents might have been but after several generations they should just be called Americans. This kind of labeling is divisive.
