I loved his work with Rainbow. I respected his other work. I looked forward to more great work from him.

He's been credited occassionally with inventing the "sign of the horns" rock salute, as well.
Though he says it actually comes from his grandmother as a sign to WARD OFF evil!

So, all those Satanists are unknowingly WARDING OFF Satan!

One of the truly great heavy metal singers from a time when you could understand the lyrics. Devil horns in heaven. RIP.

He was one of the most gifted singers through the evolution of metal, yet he stayed true to his beliefs and foundation. Truly a very sad day indeed. RIP brother... :(

I saw him with Rainbow and when they did Man on the SIlver Mountain live it just blew me away. I dont guess at that time I knew who he was, but from then on I was a fan. He had a huge iconic rock voice that will be missed.

RIP RJD

A bit of trivia, Ronald James Dio was born in New Hampshire from Italian parents, his real last name is Ronald James Padavona, he changed his name to Dio (BTW Dio in Italian means God) but it was not religion that motivated Dio to chose that name, Ronny James Dio partially named himself after a New York mobster Johnny Dioguardi.

I didn't know this! I thought he was gonna be ok. I'm crushed. Really, this bums me out.

Ronnie was/is in my top 5 of vocalists. He was such a cool guy too.

I'm gonna go cry now...
