I took my son and his friend to see a show at The Shelter in Detroit last night. First band was Knife, lead by guitarist Chuck Burns (Seduce, Speedball). This was the band's first show and they sounded damned good. Next was Isosceles Mountain, experimental noise band. They were followed by SnakeWing, and the mosh pit began in earnest. My son and his friend were in there with football player sized dudes, hard to watch. My son's friend got punched in the jaw and thrown into the stage, he ended up with a huge bruise on his back. Next on was Against The Grain, and while the music was slightly untuned the energy was amazing and the moshing got out of control, with people falling and flying into each other. Finally the headliner Hellmouth came on, typical death metal but very tight and LOUD. Hellmouth is lead by the ex-singer from Suicide Machines. All I can say is that ain't dancing, but they sure had fun.

Yep. After the age of 35 or 40, those bruises hurt a lot longer & deeper than they did in your 20's.

The older you are the more chance that someone will punch you in the back of the head or another attack you won't see coming. (beware)
I got hit 3x at a show until I grabbed the offending arm and bit it. I never saw who owned the arm, but I did see the blood that poured from it and the chunk of flesh I spit out after.
Needless to say I didn't get punched, jostled, touched or moved for the rest of the show.
(He's lucky he didn't lose a finger or more)(I would have broken it at the elbow, but I didn't have enough of it to exploit)
Oddly enough, security didn't catch it either. (I thought after wards I was going to be ejected)
