RIP Bob Qualls
Last night I got a call from Freddie Smith who sang with a local band called Hard Drive in the mid 90s. They played a lot of the same places that we did at the time and were some really good musicians. Anyway the guitarist from Hard Drive was named Bob Qualls, or as some of us called him Bob Bitchin. I dont know if he approved of the nickname or not but I thought I should include names in this post so if anyone knew Bob and happens to see this then they will know what happened.
Bob and his wife Sherry and 2 children lived on a creek that is an off shoot of the TN river, in Lyndon TN. Sherry got a call at work from Bob and he said we are getting out of the house cause the water is rising. Bobs house was in a low spot and he took the 11 yr old son up on the road by the house. He then went back to the house to get his 16 yr old daughter Kylie. When Sherry got there she saw Bob and Kylie hanging onto debris by the house. She tryed to get help and when she came back both had been swept away.
Freddie called me and wanted me to post info around so old friends would know this. From what Freddie told me he and Bob were best friends before they played together, so Freddie has taken this very hard.
Our band Aint Yo Mama used to play around the Covington Tn area, and one of our regular gigs was a place called Side Street Pizza. Bob used to come down and sit in on guitar. He was a nice guy and could play the heck out of a guitar. I posted 4 pictures on our myspace if anyone wants to look myspace.com/aintyomama1 its in an album called RIP Bob Qualls, Freddie sent me 4 pictures to share and get this info out.
He and I talked for quite a while. When you play in a group with someone its like a marriage. I tryed to imagine what it would feel like if one of my bandmates passed away like this. Our bassist studio flooded and he was pumping water out to save his studio equipment. His son plays in a group that practices at a business in Covington TN. Thier rehearsal space flooded and from what I heard ruined thier equipment. It just makes you think, and for me although Ive been having a lot of personal issues lately that have just consumed me, I feel blessed that Im not facing the death of a bandmate or of the loss of a bands equipment.
Thanks for your time and if any of these names ring a bell please pass the info along.
Have a Great Weekend and Smile!
