Oh, say can you see...
Okay. I'm just trying to get a grip here. I get online every day, and I go to two sites: Facebook and Bandmix. I go to Facebook to socialize with family, friends and associates. I come to Bandmix for music-related topics, and to socialize with other musicians. So I have to ask...WTF?
I've actually been on BM for a few years now, and I've seen a lot of members come and go to and from the forum. Time changes everything, and the includes the atmosphere at the site. That being said...
About a month and a half ago, I posted some new music, and requested some responses. I posted it in the morning, and came back to check about eight hours later. It was gone, buried way, way down at the bottom of the page. I had received two-three responses, and then it virtually disappeared from sight. What important MUSICAL topics had bumped it down so far? None. It was political discussions, religious discussions, silly youtube vids and boredom breaking non-posts.
I was aggravated, but I let it go. I don't have to be here, and I don't have to respond to any of it. There are a lot of folks on this site that I respect and value their wisdom, and would like to feel that, when I need that input, I always have access to it. Apparently, I just have to bump it myself twenty times a day...
Now, it's worse. I posted a question relating to my musical "career". It was almost immediately hijacked and turned into a political rant and a personal attack (none of which had anything to do with the OP-the guy didn't even respond to my topic). Today, Phil posted to tell us about a musician he knew that had passed away...and immediately, the same person (yes, I mean GlenJ) tried to turn it into a political rant. WTF??
I know I'm not the only one upset about this; read Paleopete's response in that thread if you don't believe me. There have been others as well (I do check in daily, even if I'm not posting).
Come on guys. It's out of hand. I personally would never begrudge anyone an oppurtunity to express their beliefs, share a funny story, etc. However, I'm pretty sure that Bandmix is a music site, first and foremost, and, speaking for myself only, A little restraint would be appreciated.
I like it here, but I'm 100% sure that there are actual political forums elsewhere online.
