Depends on the gangrene. There is more than one form of gangrene.
Both are bad shyt, Hopefully you have good circulation to the area.
I recommend you carry your butt to the doctor without hesitation.
Without intervention and often IV antibiotic you can loose more than a thumb.
If it is indeed gangrenous. You cannot afford to F around.

Zip,
That's not what having a "green thumb" is all about brother!
But seriously...
Follow Sans advice...Cause you can't afford to lose any digits, as a musician!

It's situations like that where I really feel kind of helpless.
I mean, yeah if it was my wound I would probably keep it clean with a Dakin's solution or something similar.
But too be honest once you have some necrosis it's a hard heal.
Tell ya what though. I will ask my wife. She is wound care certified.
Perhaps she will have some idea.
Honestly though. This is probably beyond both our expertise if active infection remains present.
P.S. The wife recommends Betadine solution. Clean well and paint with daily.
But again, honestly. This needs to be followed closely by an MD.
An infectious disease specialist would be whom I would seek out.
The infection can get into the bone.
I will keep her in my prayers.
Jeanette said she would too.

You need to consult with my naturopath. Her phone number is 913-825-6111. She's got some amazing natural healing herbs that might work wonders for you. I had a recluse spider bite on my bicep a few years ago that got so bad I was told by a medical doctor to have removed by surgery. Instead I went to the naturopath and she prescribed two of her herbals that I took four times a day. Within a week the bite was almost completely healed. The doctors were dumbfounded, they said it wasn't posible to heal without surgery and prescription drugs. The natural way is worth a try, believe me. She also cured my irritable bowel that had baffled the mainstream doctors for years.

Stabilized.
Surgery is imminent though.
I think we are going to sue the sh*t out of the 'hand specialist', because he's just now come to admit that it is going to need surgery, that the tendon did break, and that there is bone showing.
He actually had the gall to tell her one time that she couldnt run to the E.R. (she had to go through him first)
Well, all of the I.V. antibiotics tha shes gotten are from running to the E.R.
if it was up to him, shed probably be dead by now.

Really sorry to hear all this.
I hope he gets what's coming to him, and that your wife comes out ok!
