Most Expensive Bass Guitar? Maybe This One...

The $250,000 bass guitar, The Ritter Royal Flora Aurum, was built by Jens Ritter, a luthier, or stringed instrument maker, from Germany.

This luxurious bass has a body carved from a rare, solid piece of maple while the nut is carved from 10,000-year-old mammoth ivory.

The fingerboard is decorated with a floral inlay pattern made of 24-karat gold. There’s even a black diamond set in platinum decorating each leaf.

The bridge, tuner buttons and knobs are cast in gold. The knobs hold an additional embellishment: they are both topped with brilliant-cut diamonds (3.3 carats).

Ritter began as a musician who couldn’t afford his own instruments, buying broken guitars and fixing them. When Madonna’s bass player rang his doorbell and asked to see his collection, he realized his hobby might be his life’s work.

Ritter makes about 60 handcrafted guitars each year. His line of custom-designed Ritter Royals is being sold by Wynn & Co. Jewelry in the esplanade at Wynn Las Vegas.

I wonder if it plays or sounds $248,000 better than mine?

Craig , I think I would pass on that one, Unless you threw in a couple hundred thousand of your specialty boxers....

Nice guit , but I can't play bass for nothing.

Maybe we could get one for Philby,, he can play bass.

CONDITION: He has to wear one of your specialty boxers for 5 minutes.

If a bassist walked onto stage with that, I'd leave.

For 250K$, it should be able to play itself.

I think jukeboxes play themselves, and they play other instruments and they cost less than 250K.

A bit gaudy for my taste.

Nice wood, though.

I'd play it if you put it in my hands, but I wouldn't seek it out, & I sure as hell wouldn't pay $250K for it!

Gimme a Wilmer Thumb at 0.0048 the cost, though, & I'd prolly play even better than I could on that one.

So, I'd buy it if I could afford it. I honestly would. But defining "being able to afford it" is important.

Because if I could afford that bass I could also afford to own *and* drive a Lamborghini Countach. I could also afford a private jet. I'd also own a chain of hotels and *at least* three mansions.

Make no mistake, I'd be happy to be in that position.

But I'm not there.

Oh, and one other point: if I could afford to buy the bass I could afford play it as well. It's not enough to own it and display it.
