OK, I just want to get some opinions.
I'm working with a cover band & a member did not show (no call, no email nothing) for unknown reasons. It seems it may have to do with a woman but who knows. I'm worried that this may happen again in the future, the others want to give him another chance.
Knowing the only reason I'm not on a stage right now is because of unrelable musicians, what would you do in my place? Conceed to giving this person another chance, search for a new member, or leave the band because of fears they won't ever get out of the garage & on stage.

Next question anybody know any good bassists in Houston wanting to play Rush, Black Sabbath, Tool, Nickelback, Ozzy, & more? Practice is every other week.

Thanks

HEY ,BRO IF YOUR MUSICIAN IS A FRIEND THEN YOU SHOULD AT LEAST SIT DOWN WITH THE BAND MEMBERS AND LET HIM KNOW THAT THIS IS SOMETHING OF A BUSINESS TO THE REST OF THE BAND MEMBERS ,AND IF YOUR ARE GOING TO TRY AND PLAY FOR A LIVING THAN THIS IS A BUSINESS,AND IN YOUR FRIENDSHIP THERE IS MUSICAL MAGIC, IF HE GIVES YOU GRIEF THAN FIRE HIM AND KEEP MOVING FORWARD ,MOST BANDS EXPERIANCE THIS ,GOOD LUCK KEEP PLAYING ,ROCK ON

I agree with Jazzmine. I've had this problem a couple times and i tried to make thing work but they didn't. You have to find people as motavated as you are to performing. Some people join bands to say their in one but never actually put forth the effort to make it work. good luck :D

I've been in bands for 25 years. If someone lets everybody know beforehand they can't make it, that's OK once in a while. I for one don't appreciate it when someone just doesn't show up. I'm sure there's a lot of quality musicians in your area who would be more than happy to take their place. My two cents...later...Fisherman Bob

I should probably also state that he has not been answering his email & the woman in question stated he was talking about quitting the band after she had the "just friends" talk with him for the 13th time.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm willing to hear him out F he ever contacts us again, but am really leaning towards walking if he doesn't have a damn good excuse or apology.

Anybody need a singer?

Is this a pattern? If it's happened before (and not necessarily just in the band practice or performance setting, e.g., social occasions?) then your bandmate is likely showing his spots, which are unlikely to change (I speak from experience). If this is the first time, well then, see if there's an explanation for no show/no call behavior AND be on the lookout for more of it. Good luck.

Reading all the bassist wanted ads I guess I need to dust off my bass & try & start getting the vocal phrasing & the bass parts to mesh. Geez! Why is it you can walk in a music store, throw a stick, and hit a guitarist; whereas you have to dig under some pretty nasty rocks to get a bassist?
