I figure that if they can use anything that is worth using they can have it to save someone else. I plan to be cremated anyway, so what the heck. I am not going to be needing it and if someone else can benefit from my passing, they can have it.

Yes, I am, but I'm never comfortable about it. Some of my parts just aren't suitable for others, anymore, I'm afraid, after the abuse I've put on myself...I won't go into which parts, or why, but let's just say that some ppl wouldn't wanna know where my hands have been...& that's just my hands!

I have been an Organ donor since getting my license twenty sumthin years ago... have also shared that idea with several of my friends who had not ever thought about it, and they too are organ donors.

I salute you for bringing up the topic with your friends and spreading the good work.

I think it's quite the honorable thing to do on the part of the individual.
I just have issues with others making a profit from my "donation".

I hear you. My lungs they don't want for sure. I am a smoker. Heart, not so much either, have mytro valve. Eyes, wear glasses for distance and going to need reading glasses next: old age catching up with me LOL. I figure that they can use my kidneys or liver, those seem to be in good working condition still

I can see your point. I haven't thought about it like that. But on the other hand, what price do you put on living? I don't mean to start a debate on the subject. I was just curious about where people stand and the reasons behind the stance. Good to hear your reasons and I have thought about what you said.

I am still going to be an organ donar for the simple fact that I would at least like to feel like my death/life had a meaning somehow, and I have hopefully helped someone.

Nothing wrong in what a person feels is right for that individual. Thank you for an honest answer.

This is a good subject for us to breach this morning.
Some might say I have an odd viewpoint for someone whom gets paid to give transfusions and insure that transplant "take".

Would I donate some of my time to give a transfusion if all parties involved did the same.

Not to dissent... but this is a generalized statement. There ARE Doctors that donate time, money and resources... there ARE Hospitals that do the same.

I know Nurses that would kick you in the face as they stepped over your bleeding mortal coil, if it didn't profit them. Others that can't say no to every kitten, kid and con artist that comes along.

I disagree civilly with you my friend, the donation must not be conditional... its a gift of life. Its hope to the hopeless, and a slight chance that some good will come from my demise.

And I can appreciate your sentiments, truly I do.
I see things quite differently,( no gray all is black or white) one reason I suppose for my quite often being at odds here on the forum.
That's OK. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.
For you, you feel the gift is unconditional. Nobel that.
For me if the gift empowers or perpetuates the evils of greed against my fellow men then I am aiding and abetting said evils.
One reason my soul is constantly at odds with my occupation.
My presence serves to protect my patients against the callous and careless.
I also serve as henchman for the devil by accepting to work in unsafe conditions.
Also keeps me at odds with my employers as I am quite vocal about the abuses and neglect I observe in the name of greater profits.

As I ponder deeper you must also realize that I do not consider death as the end.
Tis a gateway we all will pass. If not today then tomorrow.
For me what exist beyond that gateway is perfection of body and soul for eternity.
The "gift of life" could be viewed as a delay of the inevitable or the stalling of a more beautiful existence.
Life on this earth is a precious gift.
Yet it is but dust in the winds of eternity.
I do not expect for you to agree, but perhaps it will aid you in some understanding from whence I come.
