Hey everyone, I was at the Cape May Music Conference again this year, it was last Friday, and Saturday. Once again, and moreso than last year, I was floored by the level of talent, and industry people who come out to these things to help out artists and bands.

We were slotted to play one set, 9PM Sat night, and went on as scheduled, played an okay show (there were sound issues), but the next band didn't come. We were so cool to the sound guy about the issues (the first band got crappy with him) that he asked us to stay on for a 2nd set. Then they had yet another last minute cancellation, so they had us break down, but only partially, had the one last band (who did show up) do their set, then brought us back from 12-2 to close teh place.

It was a pretty amazing night and a couple of our new songs really killed (those of you who remember stereotypo? - We ended the first set, had half the place up and dancing, some semi-moshing!! and these were 30 and 40 something label folks, producers, etc.. and their s/o's in the crowd!

I found it amazing that two bands didn't make it, although I think one had a genuine emergency, nobody knew wth happened to the other, what fools!

Anyways - like last year, I will be posting my summaries of the seminars I went to, although it will take a few days to get them in order!

Hopefully some pics too

I seem to remember some things you've posted in the past about this event Keith.
But perhaps you should elaborate for others and to refresh my memory.

Sounds like it was well worth it, you got more playing in than you had planned. Never ceases to amaze me when bands don't show up when there's all kinds of folks there anxious to hear them. Ended up being a good thing for you.

Now that would be cool!
NJ I mean.
Epicenter of the US musical world? Well perhaps not but the landscape does make you think sometimes.

NJ is not the epicenter of anything except maybe garbage and people in general.

(nothing away from you KP)

I spent a few very nice vacation weeks in Cape May in the mid 1980's. We stayed at one of the beautiful bed and breakfast places. It was a very nice vacation spot. Can't vouch for it today, hopefully it's not the epicenter of garbage, but then Captain may know more about Cape May than I do...

LOL Cape may is like a slice of the more romantic new england motif - and certainly a time-warp compared to the rest of NJ.. Capt is kind of right, wildwood NJ looks much with South-central LA without the palm trees, most of the other towns look like Mordor (LOTR reference). I generally hate everything about NJ, but Cape May and perhaps the princeton area are the exceptions to the rule.

Anyways, yes sans I posted a lot of info last year, and there was a ton of NEW info this year, I go to a lot of these types of events nowadays and I always learn something new, if not hundreds of new things at each one!

...more later

I played Cape May with my mom's band, when I was 16 or 17.

Performed at The Grand Hotel.

Don't know if it is still there though.

Some friends of ours owned a small hotel there as well... "The Buckingham", but it's been over a decade since I talked with them, so I don't know if their hotel is still there either.

But Cape May is beautiful, with all the historic houses.

A song about it... "On the way to Cape May" actually got alot of airplay way back when.

So much for my advice eh?
Did you change the song up any?

You must have because it's impossible for me to be wrong.
