LOL

I was waiting for this chastisement from you! ;-)

It's true. I quit smoking! :-)

I have my step-son to thank for it I suppose.

I had shown him the site "Howstuffworks.com" and told him it was a great site to learn things... How volcanoes work, or cell phones, or whatever!

He decided to look up.... "How quitting Smoking Works"

And when he found an article on it, he read it out loud to me, about how bad it is, but also how things improve when you stop. Like... "After 24 hours..." - "After 48 hours..." "After 1 year...."

But it just touched me how much this has been on his mind.

I had told him I would quit if his mother did, but she always says she isn't ready. And here he was using his own free computer time, to get information to help us stop smoking.

So, I decided that I would quit whether his mother did or not.

I told him so... and he was SO THRILLED!

But wonder of wonders... when I told his mother I was quitting, because of her son.... she decided to quit too!

So, we'll see how it goes, but for more than 24 hours now, I am smoke free!

;-)

Not craving for one either. The hardest bit though for me will be after our gig in a couple of weeks, when I'm around other smokers and alchahol..Will more than likely start craving then!!

Wow guys!

Good luck to us ALL then! :-)

Greenie,

For me, it's not having that Cigarette after a meal, also when writing music! Oddly enough! Even though half of it just burns there, I like reaching down for that cigarette when I'm writing!

But I'm getting older, and as a singer. smoking is absolutely the worst thing for a voice. And I read that after one year off of cigarettes, just one year... risk of DYING from stroke or heart attack decreases by 50%. That's a big statistic!

So, I am looking forward to getting some of my former vocal power back, which usually happens after I have quit for about 3 months or more, and also falsetto. I lose my falsetto when I smoke regularly. Hopefully I'll get that back again too!

But...

GOOD LUCK GUYS! :-)

Let's keep each other encouraged!

Wow, that statement is some powerful and positive encouragement!

Thanks! :-)

I think I'll make it stick. I promised my step son I would quit, and he knows that in the last 7 1/2 years, since I have known him, I have never lied to him once.

Can't start now.

that's a very touching story craig.

good for you all on the quitting.

I used to smoke 2pks of marlboro reds a day... back when they were 'up to' $3.50 a pack. I quit cold turkey in 99'.
Lots of people convince themselves they need the patch or this or that...
but I've found that the trick to quitting is never smoking again javascript:emoticon(':D')

there's gonna be times when you smell it and just crave the spit out of it.... I still do some eleven years later.

You go Craig!

Quiting smoking is a very personal decision. If you don't do it FOR YOU your chances of success are slightly limited. I tried 3 times before I finally had success.

There are SO many good things that happen when you quit i.e. food taste better (smoking has a numbing effect on the taste buds), less sinus troubles, my singing voice gained an octive (all of a sudden I could hit notes I couldn't hit before) WITH EASE, less upper respritory infections annually, and here is the very best one YOU SAVE A TON OF MONEY! YEE! HAW!!
It takes about a month before the cravings subside and about a year before you can drink and not want a cig.
