Hi everyone - my Christian rock band Finding Fortress is in the running to play at a major Christian rock festival. We need people to vote for us. Could you guys take a few minutes out to do the following:
1. Go to:
http://www.sonicbids.com/voting/Default.aspx?p=337
2. Fill out your birth date and email address.
3. It will email you a “confirmation email” – so go check your emails.
4. Click on the link in the email and you’ll end up basically back on a page saying email address confirmed. Click through to the next page.
5. It will let you see the list of bands in the running. We NEED your vote so please put a check mark in the box to the left of Finding Fortress and hit submit on the page and we’ll REALLY appreciate it!
PLEASE take a minute out and help us out! Thanks!
-Jim from Finding Fortress

I generally do all I can to help out my fellow GodRockers, but man I
HATE the on line vote thingy. It so rigged / phony. Just a danged old advertisement scam.
I will talk about it to our Father though.
He knows people ya know.

So, you come in here asking for help after your non-participation in this forum. Pretty gutsy move, there, for your very 1st post.
I think I'll pass, though, & wait until after you've shown me that you want to be a part of this community, rather than a mere beggar of favors.
Cheesy. VERY cheesy, imho.
Ask for a critique of your work, & I'll give it, if it's offered within your profile.
Ask me to jump through a buncha o/l hoops so you can get a gig, without even offering up any music so I can see if you're worthy of my vote, & I won't give you help. You made no mention of your music, other than the fact that it's a christian rock band, like that would automatically make you worthy of my vote.
At this point I don't even care to look at your profile to see if you posted any music there.
Send me 5 bucks, & I might consider it. Otherwise you're a user & a beggar, two things I've seen far too much of in this world.
Addendum:
Okay, so I looked at your profile, & all I can say is to my forum-mates.
Fellow Bandmixers, this guy doesn't have any music on his profile. He hasn't done anything for anyone in here. He hasn't made any contribution to any conversation. All he's done is join up, advertise that his is a christian band, & beg for our efforts to place him in a good gig. Does this sound like someone we should be backing?
I think not.
Take your begging elsewhere.

And then there is Phil of course.
Tough room ... but honest, when it comes to music, and the "community".

well I agree with Sans, we scored 2nd in an online voting thing (a lot of ppl here helped), and although the rules said the top 12 would compete in nashville, in a stadium with live judging- we somehow just didn't make the cut.. this was for a beer sponsorship. Maybe we weren't wat they were looking for.. but that doesn't give them the right to just rig the outcome and screw the voters...

Mr. Phil perhaps I'd have started becoming very active in the community here would I be made feel welcome. I only found the place by looking for forums of other musicians who would understand how important it is for a band to get some support... so frankly without having asked for some help and mutual respect from you as a fellow musician I wouldn't have known the site existed. Now that I have browsed it I kinda like the site - don't be surprised to see me hang around - and you might want to be more welcoming my friend!

Oh and if you want to critique us there is the ability to play one of our songs on the voting site - so that's perfectly within your rights. Otherwise check out our site at findingfortress.com - that's fine.

Post some music !!
That always warms you up to musicians.
Even if these guys don't care much for what your doing musically, you will get an honest opinion.
Have something recorded? Even a home recording?
Convert it to MP3 and post it on your site.
Then post a new thread about your song inviting all to listen / critique.
Not only might you make some new friends ( I've actually met and shook hands with some of these guys) you might learn something in the process.
I know I have.
Regards:
George / guitar
NOISY KUNG FU !!

If you had introduced yourself, as others have done, I'd have welcomed you, as I have those others. If you had participated in the forum convos, I'd have listened to you & conversed with you. If you had music on your profile, I'd have listened to it.
You did not, you did not, & you did not.
I don't go out to other sites to hear ppl. I'm here to listen, if you care to post here. Too many viruses on other sites.
We get ppl in here all the time trying to sell us stuff, or get us to "support" them by spending 1/2 hr to vote & pass out our email addresses.
I expect to know you a heck of a lot better, & to be able to hear your music here, before I do that.
That seems reasonable to me.
Asking perfect strangers to go out & vote for you, songs unheard, does not. I'd have been too embarrassed to do that, myself, but I guess that's just me.
So sorry if I seem rude or unwelcoming. Allow me to rectify that by welcoming you to the forum.
I still don't see a reason to spend the time & pass out my email to vote for your band, though. Not until I've heard you, at the very least, & probably not until you've endeared yourself to me one way or another.
Again, welcome to the forum. Have a nice day.

Point taken Phil - and in answer to all of the above questions yes we have music recorded - we just spent $6000 at a recording studio to do our first studio full length album. As I stated before the voting site is playing several of our songs for you to hear prior to voting so I wasn't asking for your vote without a listen, and as I pointed out our website also features some of it... so all that said your complaints about them not being posted HERE - sure I get your point, but don't act like I was asking for you to post without having heard, I did clearly say you could hear the music and where.
All that said - hey thanks for the welcome to the forum and I look forward to making friends with you guys and being a fun addition to the forum. I appreciate your points and if you don't want to vote for my group then no worries...
