I just installed this to check it out. Wow...very fast compared to firefox

I tried it when it first came out. It was fast, but a little buggy. That was awhile ago though. I'm sure they have put out a new version or two by now. May be time to try it again.

Google is coming out with a new Open Source OS too.

Well that's no damn good! I'll keep my eye on it. I have a separate Gmail account where I back up all my music to. I know I avoid Internet Explorer like the plague because of the virus thing.

I used Firefox at work because it comes with Firebug for debugging, but now Chrome has a debugger that works even better.

AS I'd said could just been a coincidence.

If your files were lost, there is a chance you can recover them by performing a system restore, which backs your computer up in time, to a previous date (restore point) when it WAS working right, or the files were there. Doing this doesn't lose any new files you have saved, and you can always "undo" the operation, if it didn't do what you wanted, and put your computer back to where it is now.

Just choose a date BEFORE you lost your files.

This is also a good way to undo some bad viruses that take control of your computer, and if successful, you can then run your virus software to get rid of them.

Just did this for a friend of mine. Her computer was so screwed up, you couldn't run her virus software or do ANYTHING! I logged in through SAFE MODE, backed her computer up to a previous date using System Restore, and then logged back in normally, ran her virus software, and deleted programs I knew had malware, and fixed it all... and she is happily surfing the web again, with no problems.

Pro tip... disable system restore asap if you have it enabled. System restore is the chosen area for the majority of malware to "install" itself so you or diligent programs cannot remove it.

Use a third party program to back up your important files, backup often, and run regular AV/ Anti Malware checks.

And lastly... do not run any .exe files you download from the internet without running an AV scan on it first.

I had A friend set me up with router and some anti viral stuff after he went through and debugged my tower.
All was lost however.
Part of the problem I fear was I attempted to restore and ended up wiping out everything.

System Restore has worked for me 3 out of 20 tries. Sometimes like Craig says, it will get you enough control to run MalWarebytes or some other effective cleaner on it. But it is ALWAYS the prefered spot for Malware and Viri to install themselves for safe keeping and infinite re-installs.

Everyone who owns a computer should run a Malware scan once per month using one of the two products (maybe both, just not at the same time) listed below.

Both products are free... and I assure you, if you haven't cleaned your computer in the last 30 days... what these programs will find on your computer will surprise and disgust you.

Dewy those programs do work but you take a huge hit on your system speed. Once your system is clean you should be able to disable those programs and just use your AV software to prevent malware.

OOoooh Jim, didn't know you knew as much as you do. Some just will never get that which you just stated, even under duress.

I just config'd a friends comp and he couldn't get why I wanted to turn off his system restore after we had it stable. (head in hands)

Some just don't get the fact it's a finite set of resources to run your system and to leave resource sucking stuff on is to have a slow computer.

I apologize if I insinuated they should be run the entire time your computer in on.

Important point... anti VIRUS does not deal with MALWARE... different beast to the AV folks... not to you and I.

It caught ALOT of stuff that the others missed!

But then I got concerned that it was just a more subtle malware or adware and removed it too! LMAO!

Now how do the two products you recommend differ from adaware and spybot, because it was one of those that was the final nail in the coffin of my old pc.
