Phew, what a day. Played two shows yesterday, one with each band. First my cover band in the afternoon, and that was a blast. Then with my originals band on a 2-hour road trip. Great show - wish more folks would have turned out, but we had a blast.

These photos are from the second show (waiting on photos from the first show)

The club had a decent stage, and lighting, their own sound, it looks like?

How are you guys booking yourselves right now? Was this paid or free?

We gonna get the sound from this later?

I want to hear how you guys are coming along live by now, cause I liked your demo from a while back! :-)

Yes, the club had their own stage/sound/etc. They had huge mixing boards, but unfortunately only the FoH guy knew what he was doing (which is great, the crowd loved us). The guy running the monitors wasn't very good and for the second consecutive week we had a hard time hearing ourselves.

Show was free. We're an original band, we play hour-long shows, and in this area original bands don't get paid unless they have a huge following, which we don't have yet.

We book what shows we can ourselves. We have to actively look for shows because we're in a music-poor area. The Palouse is just a sucky place to try and garner attention. We all kind of wish we were in Seattle or someplace else, because we think we have something really great here. I thought the last two weekends we ruled all the other bands... We kicked major ass. But hardly anyone shows up to these shows

Probably not. They recorded a CD for us, but again, the sound guy didn't know what he was doing, so the mix is horrible. We have some live footage we shot ourselves, but it wasn't with a great camera I don't think. I'm still waiting to see it as it wasn't my video recorded. I just posted the pics from the camera I brought. The last couple of shows I've taken my camera and forgot to give it to someone! So this time I made sure to put it in the hands of one of our fans who comes to all the shows and he was really cool about it.

We know this project has a limited shelf life. Folks in the band are graduating college or moving on with their lives probably this summer, but at most they would be around for another year. So we're just trying to play as many shows as we can and enjoy the moment. I've had a blast with these guys and I've learned a lot that I'll take with me to the next band, for sure.

Love the pictures. ( was it cold? Whats with the young guys and the toboggans? Man I'd be sweating my butt off LOL )
The few times we did not do our own sound we sat up with our powered mixer and did our own stage mix. The mixer we use has multiple signal outputs to feed a "house system" for the mains. Both pre and post EQ.

I've heard good things about this little video camera for recording concerts. Haven't tried one myself yet, but if it handles live concert sound well (like it boasts), I can't see a touring band not having one on hand given the cheap price.

Wow Chris, thanks for the link. That thing looks awesome. And that's a reasonable price range too. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks JW.

I'm going to try and post pics from the other show that day as well. It was super fun too. Two shows in one day... I was up for 27 straight hours... One of the better days I've had in a while :)

I'm totally addicted to playing live now. Never going back to live without gigs.

Playing is addictive thats for sure.

Ive done a few deals where we played twice, but we once played 3 in a day. A local fair gave us a slot around noon for a deal they had. We played for an hour. Then we did a 4 hr 8-12 gig. Around the corner was this late night hard rock bar and we went in there after our second gig. The owner knew us and said do you guys have your amps and I said yea they are in the trailer. So we played an hour and a half gig there from 2:30 to 4 am.

Im not sure I would be up to these kind of deals these days.

Our band played a 2 hour slot at a local fair this past fall and I filled in with another group I play with sometimes that night.

Enjoy the ride while it lasts, cause a syou know bands can fall apart right before your eyes.

Weve got a gig coming up April 3rd. Should be interesting for me cause Im in a play the thursday and friday, with a rehearsal on that wed night, and then AYM on that sat. Will be a long week for me, plus the normal parent stuff!
