not as profound,,,, sounds of silence, is an incredible extreme example of a well crafted song.

Much of my early exposure to music was due to my elder sisters. Music of the fifties and early sixties as I grew up. Albums like "HAIR" spurred my imagination. I was draw to the SOUND OF SILENCE, not by lyric but by the haunting strains of the music. As did AMERICA'S HORSE WITH NO NAME due to the rhythm. The political views espoused in many of these songs evaded me. Or perhaps I just did not care. I never cared for U2. I always considered their work weak and whinny. That chime sounding guitar that seems to be in every song grates my last nerve ending. But then my first LP was GRAND FUNK RAILROAD a live album. I don't even know from whence it came. One day as I scoured through the countless Jim Nabors, Dean Martin, type albums looking for something to listen to I came across GFR and I took the bait. The hook was set when I found an IRON BUTTERFLY 8 track on the side of the road.
My motto became bang your head or STFU.

For years, The Sound of Silence was my favorite song. Both because of the music and the lyrics. This is a wonderful performance.

Pure unadulterated brilliance, like so many Paul Simon songs.

Yeah, the first time I saw that performance it was on a nice home theatre system at a friends. (Had had it recorded on the dvr)

I just sat there in kind of a stunned state afterwards.
Its moments like that and songs like that, that make the trials and tribulations of the music biz worth it.

great song, but one of his strings is slightly out of tune and it's noticeable in the intro. Other than that, great performance.

If you have heard our music and heard me talk about our music you would know just how much I agree with you on this point. The truth and the danger about having your own signature sound, is that for some (as is the case with me and U2) it just don't get it. ( much like the wide deviation in response we get. Some say we suck. Others tell us we are awesome)That is why I detest "pop" music in all its forms & from all genre. Sound alike is sound alike. They might as well be doing covers.
I can respect U2 @ that point, yet I do not like their music. Same could be said for Flock of Seagulls. Signature sound that sucks IMO.
How much money they may or may not make producing what IMO is garbage is again to me irrelevant. So many bands on the radio today all sound the same. I don't care for cookie cutter anything really either. One reason a lot of my personal music entertainment comes from right here. I'd rather hear Neanderpaul or Craig, Jimmy, Keith, Phil, Bob, Billy, ...... man this could go on all day.
