I have bought a lot of crap, so it is a hard thing to define. One was the CME Matrix. A designer ultra low noise lowZ preamp that doesn't work with any microphone I have. The gain on it is about the same as no preamp at all. And I have about 6 different types of condenser mikes.

I guess #2 was the highest priced POS I ever bought. A Gibson Super 400 arch top guitar from Gibsons custom shop. The most expensive guitar they made. It came in with belt buckle groves (DEEP) all over the center of the back, and a pickup was hanging out of the guitar. The pickup ring didn't even have any screws in it. But I got the screws. The store owner ripped me off for about 1/2 of the price when I refused it.
Since I did the repair work for the store, and they owed me in repairs what amounted to 1/2 the price of the guitar. I had et my repair charges stay on the store books because I was going to use the money to purchase that guitar. They got over a years worth of repair wages from me. Then he sold the store before I could get my money out of him. The lawyer told me it would cost more time and money to fight him in court.
I never let any one walk out the door after that without any repair bill being paid before pickup.

I guess I could go on forever..... In the larger scheme of things, it doesn't matter.

In the 80's a gorrilla amp.. it was pretty awful. I turned it up to 10 and it blew up. Junk. But that was also a $99 amp, cheap gear is what it is.

As far as higher priced stuff goes.. hmm Probably the Marshall MG100 Half-stack. The absolute worst sounding amp I ever bought/owned. I ended up returning it and buying a valvestate instead. Until the MG series, I thought Marshall was incapable of making junk gear. I was wrong.

Guitars was a fender american strat. The intonation would warp out within 1-2 playing hours after being set, the guitar wouldn't stay in tune worth a crap, and the pickups buzzed especially bad for single-coils (the wiring was bad). I bought the guitar first, then an amp several months later, so I had no idea until I plugged it in finally, and was stuck with it.

Bought a Rogue resonator guitar from musician's friend and when I got it, the two high strings were buzzing at the bridge and there was no adjustment for it. The strings that did play didn't have that resonator sound anyway so I just sent it back for full refund.
POS that I kept too long to return was the Boss Jamstation. It seemed cool at first and I figured after I watched the video and really learned how to use it, it would be great for writing song ideas. Too late I learned that all the songs in it were too dated to be of any value and it wasn't one that you could get updated. It's gathering dust as we speak. $350 down the tube.

I'm almost embarassed to say it - my 1976 Martin D-28. The neck has been redone three times and now the luthier has taken so much off that the intonation is wrong. Such a shame, the guitar has a magnificent tone and when right plays great. At this point the luthier says I need a new neck.

I know this will sound funny, but I guess every piece of gear I ever bought. Once I get one I want another thing to improve it, makes no sense at all cause when I listen to the things Ive recorded thru the years I basically sound the same on all of it!

A Danelectro sitar emulator...I forget what they called it...it was simply a ring modulator & sounded like crap...nothing like a sitar. It was the only piece of musical stuff I ever bought that I couldn't do a thing with, & I returned it.

I would have to say my Marriage License, its still costing me a fortune.

I've had a few pieces of gear go in and out of favor. Nothing I'd really call a POS though. One of my Strats had a horrible squealing feedback. I carried it back to Kelly at Action Sound. He tore into to her to find one of the humbuckers was not even potted. He replaced it with an EMG free of charge.
Though I still have that guitar in my possession I rarely play her any more.

I said that about my exes on another string about the same thing.

Then I got to thinking about it.

They weren't the worst deals I made. I was the worst deal they made.

A Crybaby Wah

They seem solid, but they're not. Thing broke on me after minimal usage. Plus, didn't care for the tone, or the fact that I had to click it to activate it (prefer Morley's now).
