Has anyone ever actually got a gig with others on this site?

I was wondering of anyone ever got a gig by using this site?

It seems to be a real bitch to search for any one/thing. I can't tailor the search to find bands that are looking for a bass player or a guitar player.... and since I'm looking for a band "anywhere" in the USA it makes it worse than browsing through craigslist or the recycler.

Who do we yell at to make the search feature more ad hoc (on the fly parameters)? The way it is now I can't see spending money on it.

M.'.

P.S. - I'm also an information systems architect.... the search feature here really..... kinda..... sucks.

Actually the search feature on here doesn't really suck. I've gigged with a number of different musicians I found on Bandmix. Your situation may be different in that you are looking to tour. I'm not sure if Bandmix would help you or not.

Hey I've got a high school friend who lives in Show Low, the town that sounds like a poker game.

LOL, it does sound like a poker game. Its nice up here. Quiet and friendly. Its a healthy base of operation. But all the musicans are country bumkins (no offense all you country music players) I'm into heavier stuff.

Yeah, he says it's nice, I've never been there. He moved there from Orange County, he hated LA. He's also a keyboardist but he's more into prog rock stuff. Best of luck in your search.

Heavier to you maybe. But Nashville studio cats can do chops that are completely against the laws of nature when it comes to tricky licks. They don't take a back seat to any musicians. :)

I found a couple of players through this site in the past.
I put my musical carear on hold for the time being, due to other commitments, but I'm still getting inquiries on my profile. I believe that much depends on your location. Seems to be a lot of rockers around these parts. I'm not a premier member, but if & when I do need to hook up with other players in a hurry, I believe a premier Bandmix membership would be a sound investment

I've found a few prospective band members here. As such sites go, it's better than most.

It certainly doesn't replace BAM magazine of years gone by. I think it's a combination of the localness of the music rag, plus it was free, plus it was ubiquitous. Every record store, musical instrument store and remotely related business had a stack of BAM's somewhere convenient to pick one up.

I think web-based musician search isn't as effective as it once was either. There is a site called "TheMode" which used to work so well I had to filter responses aggressively when I'd post an ad there. I posted an ad there a month ago. Nothing.

And, of course, there's Craigslist. I get many more responses from my ads there, but the vast majority of the people who respond are exactly the people I'm trying not to get involved with again. Even so, I've found people there as well. I have found it useful to direct them to my home page where you will find a longish rant on my views on how a band should operate before discussing anything else with them. I don't want to convince people to do it my way, I want them to be on board from the start.

But location matters as well. The SF Bay Area has many more musicians than the Central Valley. I live in the Central Valley, work in the SF Bay Area, so I can choose either as my "base". Once I largely abandoned the Central Valley I did much better, both in quantity and quality. Although the singer I have (hopefully) snapped up is from the Central Valley.

So, yeah, you can find people here.

But...

I'm a premium member and I'm pretty aggressive about contacting people I think might be a match.

Yep, local guy looked me up here and on a couple of other online resources, managed to find me and leave a note on my mother's car, which I was storing at the time, and we're gigging right now. Last gig was a party this weekend, next one is the 26th. So far it's going pretty well, but just getting started.
