The other thread made me think of this.

I would put U2 at #1 every time. Obviously you can't get them to do it every year. Springsteen was cool - but I think he is probably the only aging rocker who can still pull it off, and probably not for much longer.


Other thoughts I had:

Dave Matthews Band - They have a reputation for a great live act and I think they could medley several songs effectively. Most people seem to like them. Not sure they have enough of the "rock" vibe going, but I think it would still work.

Alter Bridge - Myles Kennedy has an awesome voice; it would be fun to hear him wail live. Plus, they have some songs that are really great lyrically (One By One, In Loving Memory, Rise Today, etc.) Very anthem-type stuff... Plus, Creed did the Super Bowl several years ago.

Chickenfoot - I think Sammy and Joe would be cool to see at a halftime show, and between those two you have a giant catalog of music you could whip out to rock the crowd. You could pull out an old Hagar tune, old Van Halen, or cover something... lots of possibilities.

Foo Fighters - biased maybe, but I think this might be the best halftime show ever.

Shinedown - Probably not enough people know who they are, but they would rock it.

Meh, U2 is past their prime, DMB sucks, Chickenfoot sucks, Foo Fighters are so-so live, the other bands mentioned are too obscure for mainstream audiences. My vote? Pearl Jam.

AC/DC and open with Thunderstruck

Thats a tough question cause I would like to see Satch, Vai, Van Halen and a few other superstar guitarist on there in some form of super group, but the Superbowl like Jimmy has alluded to is big business. As bad as I hate to say it for current music they need to look at the Peoples Choice Awards or even the Grammys for the most current acts.

But on the other hand the people with the money behind everything are people in the 40-70 yr old range and it needs to appeal to them.

My vote for next yr, a reformed Led Zep!

I can't stand the post-90's Metallica, but I think their energy and popularity would fly for a greatly received show.

Chris4Blues - I can't stand the post-80s Metallica haha but I agree they would be a good choice! I'd have to disagree with everything else except AC/DC or a reformed Led Zeppelin!

How about Chuck Berry?

One of the pioneers, if not the originator of Rock and Roll.

He did a world tour as recently as 2008, and was in his 80's when he did that (he was born in 1926) and he STILL performs once a week somewhere in his home state of Missouri.

Or these two bands from the past, which are STILL PERFORMING!

You can see either one of those bands at the local state fair.

How about Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd? That should make the trailer park and hill folk happy.

Which band played at the first Super Bowl? Was it a marching band? How about they have the Needham (Massachusetts) High School Marching Band.
