So is anyone here collaborating on music through file transfer?

I do a lot of different styles, I'm looking to collaborating possibly on some electronic alternative rock since it's more true to band composed music where as the metal I do is more like "Ok here's the song I wrote everyone follow my lead".

The song is "Happy Whistle" which was just out of need to save the file.
I'll start a second account for this material since it's completely Alien to my primary work. Give it a listen for now and if it's along the lines of your interest, see if you can come up with something to accompany it.
Dunno if the riff will serve as the chorus hook or a rhythm hook-the beauty of composing songs with other musicians.

This is the material where I feel so naked and vulnerable as a musician

Metal and hard rock on the other hand is just too damn easy.

I did a cover and I wanted a blues harp player. I had several people interested, but what I got back was way out of the vibe. So I looked through my comments section at Soundclick and found a Dobro player that was excellent.

David Kampmann lives in the Netherlands so I asked him to listen to the song. After listening, he said he would play on it. So I sent him the mixed down MP3, and asked him if he would play non stop all the way through the song, and I "would cut to fit." What he sent back was a really great instrumental ride. I asked for a "dry" version as well as the version with the reverb on it. He gladly sent both to me. Then I just turned the MP3 into a wav, and added it to the mix. That was a fun experience.

The song originally was sent to me by a friend. The drum track was over 12 years old, and he kept the drum track and re sang and played bass on it. (Originally recorded on a 4 track cassette recorder.)

My friend had banjo on every track. It was supposed to be a joke. I liked it and added a lot of sound FX that I glued together from tons of short clips I found on the Internet. After I was through, it sounds like a real storm, but it is really bits and pieces of manipulated clips. Stretched, squeezed, and every other thing I could do to make it real. The thing took on a life of it's own and kept morphing and morphing.

So the whole thing was a collaboration from start to finish, by people all over the place. I never really did a concentrated master, but I have everything needed to do that some day.

Not too bad, SG. I am no fan of the singer or the drums, but it's still pretty cool, esp when you consider that it's ppl from all over.

So far, the best collaboration website I've run accross has been http://www.indabamusic.com . I'm sure there are others, but this lets you upload your files to the site and everyone can listen to them, and join your session to upload parts. The interesting part too is that the wave of your song is displayed accross the bottom of the browser and you can add notes/comments to any part of the track for others to see, and others can do the same. You can browse other sessions and request to join the session, or if it's public, you can just upload a track as an audition.

I think indaba has nailed it in terms of collaboration needs.

See, I'm referring someone to another site because Bandmix can't meet this need.
