As usual the 2010 Grammy's were a big steaming crap sandwich, however a couple of my favorites did win: Jeff Beck, John McLaughlin and Chick Corea and Sharon Isbin. Taylor Swift and Lady Gag Gag? No thank you.

The big award shows (Grammy, Oscars, CMA, etc.) are nothing but glorified meat markets. People are more interested in what the nominees are wearing than the awards themselves. It's nothing but a giant PR attention getting meat market. I could care less...

For whatever reason I don't enjoy the Grammy's. I think, maybe, it's because musical taste is so specific to individuals. The Grammy's do something which I think is cool - they are inclusive, so many genres are represented and awarded. But it's that inclusiveness that makes it unattractive to me, as a listener.

There's also this:

"I think the Grammys are nothing more than some gigantic promotional machine for the music industry. They cater to a low intellect and they feed the masses. They don't honor the arts or the artist for what he created. It's the music business celebrating itself. That's basically what it's all about." - Maynard James Keenan

I much more enjoyed the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert that HBO showed this past month. Now, that was cool...

I don't watch awards shows unless I'm getting an award. Then I watch to see if what I'm wearing makes me look fat.

I think the last time I watched the Grammy's was 1995 when Soundgarden won best Rock Performance. Aftter that, I didn't have any motivation to see it again.

He won for his version of "A Day In The Life". See the link for more info.

I agree. Nothing more than several hour long infomercials. All the award shows are nothing more than product pitches.

Just ditch the phony best actress, top vocalist, best new band crap and vote vote the real thing instead....... Tightest buns, biggest boobs, cutest face......

I'm no fan of lady gaga, I'm sure that's been said before-

BUT..

All the same things you say about her today were also said about Madonna 25 years ago.

Taylor swift? I hate country. I hate country-pop even more. But she's not selling herself as a composer or trying to pass herself as a serious musician... She's an entertainer, one who can sing her ass off, just like whitney houston, taylor dayne, and of course Brittany, christina agulera, and miley cyrus... NONE of them write their own material or play an instrument with anything a serious instrumentalist would call skill...

I too hated madonna when she first came out. I made comments like "I didn't know 'slut' was a music style"... etc...

She made me a believer, although it took time, madonna is (or at least WAS) one hell of a singer/entertainer.

Take them for what they are. They still worked their asses off to get wehre they are and most of them (not miley though!) shoveled the same crap at the same bars we do or did. Taylor grew up near here, and believe me, this place is a sh!thole.

I don't begrudge anybody for winning awards or making a gazillion dollars in music. I DO begrudge the award shows because the emphasis on the shows ISN'T music, it's what outfits they wear, how hot are their bodies, etc. The buzz at the Academy Awards is always which starlet looks the hottest and how expensive her dress is...it's all a bunch of B.S.

Seems like there's so many award shows they should have an award show for the best award show...

Brilliant suggestion Bob. Perhaps you should have speaks with a lawyer before suggesting it to the networks! 8)

Sorry ... I think that is way over stated ... it takes as much skill to be a good singer as it does to play an instument well. Like a good guitar player ... they are far and few between.

I think you misunderstood my point. Taylor swift doesn't bill herself as a stellar guitarist, so why hate on her cause she isn't one? That's all I was saying, and I did say she could sing her ass off.
