Hello fellow musicians. There is no one better to chew you up and spit you out than someone that really knows the in's & out's of the biz.

With that being said, I would like an honest review of my band called "The Truth". We are based out of Atlanta, GA and are attempted to become famous by rocking peoples faces off.

You have a great page. Love the youthful exuberance, too. Not my usual kind of thing. I prefer more melody-based stuff, but you have some very good energy here.

It's not really my thing, as far as a genre of "rock" goes (I'd classify this as rap, really - it's way more rap than rock), so it's hard for me to give you any kind of objective review.

I do like the background of the band in a live setting on the web page - very cool.

The demos you have on the website sound well produced. A lot better than most sh*t I hear from original bands. So that's a big plus - I think your sound and your energy and what you're trying to do come across loud and clear in the demo. And that's great.

And I think in the right setting - college kids - this music probably does really well, yeah? I know in my originals band, Audian, our stuff gets acceptance a lot better from the college crowd as well.

Good luck. It sounds, at least from the demos, like you guys have a very defined idea of what you want to sound like. Keep it up man. It's all fun.

Listened to "Before it gets too late". Pretty dated. (P.O.D., Kid Rock) Cliched guitar. Good production. Pretty Cheesy and boring and it is too long.

I did write Before It Gets Too Late before Kid Rock was around.. so I feelz ya. It is kinda dated. But, it was a rockin song and we just HAD to get it out there before I die.

Excellent production. Cool website. "The Truth" does sound a lot like P.O.D. but that ain't a bad thing. It ain't even CLOSE to rap, 'cause I can listen to it and enjoy it. Keep it up. This is what the young crowds want. ENERGY!!

Oh, and by the way, I'm and old fart (55), and I like it.

I was listening to the first song and i thought "this kinda sounds like the Beasty Boys", then i saw the title of the second track
I was also singing/rapping 'Epic' by Faith No More pretty much all the way through the first track too though..

So, my opinion, if it was a bit heavier, with much more going on guitar wise i'd really dig this, just needs more dynamics melodically, and, the female thing.... nah.... just nah....

"Before it Gets Too Late" kinda reminded me of Jimmies Chicken Shack. The sound and style are a little dated, but who cares. I like that kinda stuff back then and still do.

I think we should all Bandmix together and encourage everyone here to use the Bandmix facilities that they have worked so hard to provide us. Encourage enrollment, Encourage posting music here, Encourage chat.

I hate to be negative, but the energy to make Bandmix better needs to come from Bandmix creators and maintainors. All we can do here is chat, and we've seen what the threads turn into. Calling up friends, sending email invites might get them in the door at first, but what's to stay for, really?

1. the forum is 3rd party,
2. no chat room
3. no online collaboration tools
4. who runs bandmix? ever hear from anyone outside of a personal email to them hoping for support?
5. No real incentives to sign-up - unless you want to spend however much the sign-up fee is to email a potential profile? That's outrageous.
6. No monthly newsletter?
7. No "featured bandmix artist?" of the week/month?
8. No musician resources - tools - venue lists - partnerships - deals with sponsors - discount incentives.

I mean these are all pretty much standardized on other sites these days. The Bandmix site as a whole seems like the developers glued together a a bunch of incomplete ideas using low budget widgets, set it in motion and stood back in hopes it grows on its own.

Does the home-page banner ever change? I know they refaced the site a while back, but do ever hear from them? Get a newsletter? I have no idea who they are - and there's nothing I can find on this site that tells me.

I dunno. If this site were constantly updated and given direction by the makers, I might be inclined to say to my friends "hey, Bandmix is cool and growing", but realistically, I don't see many profiles last here. People come, but I doubt there's any retention - there's nothing this site does to try to keep you here. Newcomers can't "email" other profiles without signing up, which puts Bandmix at a disadvantate to other sites that do, so they create a free profile, then just let it sit since paid members emails to them will get redirected to their sign-up email address.

Am I wrong?

Anyways, sites like Indaba music have loads more incentive for musicians. The kind of energy needed to grow Bandmix isn't going to come from us picking up a phone. It needs to start with Bandmix getting with the times and getting involved in the site. Give musicians a challenge to participate on the site: can anyone say 'featured artist"?

Some of your points are well taken Chris but you stay here, we are chatting in this room and I really don't care who runs bandmix. Participation here will make it better and posting music here is the right thing to do. There is a lot of good happening here. People are exchanging ideas and info. Just look at the viewers and you can see a lot of people are paying attention and once in a while they participate. I don't think people are here looking for coupons on gear or to make music on line. They talk about instruments and gear and gigs and recording info and other sh$t. It seems many come here to get opinions of their music. That serves a real purpose and people like the honesty. Some come here when they get all Buzzily.

you are not wrong Chris, you have some good ideas. I tried a while back to convince them to change things and all I got was a vague "we're working on big changes" only to see (over a year later) that nothing has changed.

Yet they manage to spam the craigslist for every single region in the country daily. I'd guess that's someone's full time job.. just keep posting ads..

It's hard to watch a business take what is potentially the largest market share in it's industry and piss it away because of short term goals and an investment into their sister site that can't compete (bandvista) with the competition for that type of site.

sigh.

The only thing this site has over most other music sites is this forum and to be honest, it basically turns into politics or stuff that has nothing to do with music. I'd love to collaborate online, but there's no feature for that.

As for finding band members, it's near impossible because when looking for a drummer, people on here say that they play every instrument. For me, I'm a guitarist. I don't saying I'm looking for a band but play drums, bass, tamborine, lead vocals, woodwinds, piano and viola. I've contacted so many people that say they "play drums" only to find out that they really don't. It's really aggravating.

I ask myself what this site really offers...and I honestly can't come up with a reason.

Song hosting? A million sites do that
Finding band members? To be honest, Craigslist is 1,000x better for that. Plus there's only a handful of people that even post any music on their profiles.
Online collaboration? Nope

The only thing it has is this forum, really.

Whenever I bring this site up to other musicians I know, they just laugh it at...it's like a last resort.

I used to pay for this site for years until it hit me that it blows. Literally hundreds of dollars for nothing. It could be so much better if they cared, but they don't. A year or so ago, everyone was offering their suggestions and the Bmix crew said that it was taking it seriously. I'm not even sure if they've posted since then.
