Remember last Feb, when a tree fell on my Explorer? We replaced it with a brand new 2009 Toyota Corolla. Now they've recalled it, & "they" say they don't know how to fix it.

:shock:

So what does that mean for me, the consumer? I mean, they've also recalled the ABS brake system that's in my particular car.

I just called the dealer where we bought it, & they say they'll fix the brakes on Monday, but they have no idea what to do about the gas pedal, or even if anything needs to be done. They've evidently not been watching the "news."

:shock:

Is this just another case of the media going the extra mile for my attention, or is there really a problem?

See...that's the kind of question we shouldn't have to ask, except we're in America, the home of the "free media" that can say anything at all, whether it's true or not...or if it's merely BS, like Foxier Noos...or if it's designed to put something or someone down, like CBS...cuz they'll just call it "entertainment," & that's really all it is anymore, right? Sensationalism & BS...THAT's what we can expect from our news agencies, not anything resembling "the facts."

Dammit! Now it looks like I'll hafta do a bunch of checking up on the real story, just to be sure that the wife can feel safe in her new car...or be safe...

Ha, that's what you get for buying a foreign car. You went from an Exploder to a Sticker.

Actually, we went with the car that supposedly lasts the longest, has one of the best gas mileages around, & one of the fewest problems, historically. Besides, they're assembled here in the states, too. We did a lot of research before we decided on the Toyota.

I don't see that as an issue.

Well we're a little sensitive on that whole buying foreign cars thing here in Detroit. And even though they might be assembled here the money ends up over there. American cars are just as good as the foreign ones now (just don't buy one that was built on Friday after lunch).

I'm very sensitive about that sort of thing, too, jimmy. It's just that, at this point, I really don't give a flying flook WHO the big investors are, anymore, as long as the guys on the assembly line are American. The damned investors are the ones that have been screwing me, imho, for far too long, anyway, so as far as I'm concerned, one's as bad as the next, whether they be American or foreign, ya know?

It seems odd to me that so many recalls on things like brakes and accellerator pedals occur. You'd think those would be the two parts of the car you'd want to check and re-check and re-check and re-check ad nauseum.

I bought an '07 Honda Civic (yes, I know, foreign, flame away) brand new in winter '06 and within a year received a recall letter for the brakes (which had apparently been proven unsafe for some reason or other). I mean I'm glad they caught the problem, but it does not negate the fact that I was driving around for a year in a car whose breaks could very well have malfunctioned at any time.

Frightening...

A guy finally starts making money in his life so he goes to the car dealership and buys himself a brand new Cadillac. After driving it for a few days he starts to notice an annoying rattle in the passenger side door. So he takes the car back to the dealer and they send him back to the repair department and the owner sets down in the waiting room. After about 45 minutes the mechanic comes and gets the owner and say's you have got to see this. So the owner follows him back to where they had his car with the inner part of the door diassembled. The mechanic reaches inside the door and pulls out a coke bottle with a note in it and hands it to the owner. The owner pulls the note out of the bottle and the note reads;
I GUESS YOU FOUND THAT RATTLE NOW YOU RICH SON OF A BITCH! :lol:

Yep. It's happened more than once, too. Funny how that only happens with American cars, though...

I own a Cadillac and a Toyota and they are both good cars. I think the logical common denominator is that they are objects made of thousands of parts and you will never purchase one that is perfect for a long period of time.----Hey phil, I buckled and started using spell check. Buzzzilly!
