Here In Heaven (c) 2001 Craig Maxim

In another thread, Phil mentioned his favorite acoustic, and made me think about the one I used to have. And I remembered too, that I had recorded a song I wrote with it, a few years back... 2001.

I was actually an interim music director for my church at the time, and one of our members, had a son that died of cancer in his early 40's. God inspired me to write a song for the funeral, to encourage the family that they would see their son again one say, and join him with God in Heaven. The song came from God, cause I had prayed for him to give me something special for them... Written in 10 or 15 minutes, completed lyrics and all.

I've been playing Keyboard recently (pawned my guitars, and may lose them) so it's nice to hear this, for myself, and REMEMBER that I actually play some guitar too! LOL - I finger pick, pretty much through the whole song. The recording almost doesn't do the rich tone of the Tacoma Acoustic I played it on. But still sounds pretty good.

Check it out:

It's the first song on my profile.

Here In Heaven © 2001 Craig Maxim

The waiting's over,
My soul has taken flight to home
Jesus sees me from His throne
And he says "Welcome home"

The family's crying
The teardrops fall like rain, filled with pain
But here in heaven, the angels sing with joy

I know the tears must fall
But I can't share them with you anymore
There's no tears in my new home

God's ways are perfect,
The time we had a gift he gave
He gently took me from your tender arms,
And He pulled me into His loving heart

Mother's crying
Her teardrops fall like rain, filled with pain
But here in heaven, the angels sing with joy

I know your pain is real
But pain is something, I no longer feel
There's no pain in my new home

(BREAK)

The church is crying
Their teardrops fall like rain, filled with pain
But here in heaven, the angels sing with joy
With joy
Welcome home, welcome home
Oh my child, welcome home

Good production. I'm sure this had everyone in tears, Craig. Well done.

Oops...

I forgot to mention, that the reason it was even recorded, was that I had taken a few musicians into the studio with me, to record a decent version, and present it to the mother and family, so they would always be comforted, hopefully, by listening to it, whenever they needed to.

I set it for FREE DOWNLOAD if anyone wants a copy.

Trust me, it will bring you peace, when you are driving in your car, needing to shut the world out for a minute, and breath again.

There's something very spiritual about it.

Maybe it will be as much a blessing to some of you guys, as it was to the family that it was written for.

Thank you brother.

And yes, it really moved the entire church to tears, but in a comforting way. It was one of those things, where the mother had always felt I was a very spiritual person, and she was a very influential member of the church, but was beside herself in grief when her son passed. She pulled me aside after church that Sunday, and told me... "Craig, will you handle the music for the service? Whatever you select, I know will be the right thing... I just can't even think about it all right now."

And God spoke to my heart, that I should write a song specifically for the funeral... for that family. I prayed about it, and sat down with my guitar, and it just flowed out, words and all, within literally minutes. Didn't play with several ideas first, or anything...

THAT SONG just came out.

Thanks again brother!

Very nice.
Did you do all of the guitar work on it or just the finger picking?

I was sitting here playing it and the old lady comes in and says, "Who is that?"
She never does that.

Just the picking and rhythm work.

A good friend of mine back then, who I think has a real Clapton-like style, did the lead. You can only tell so much about that, cause the engineer advised... simplicity. I think he was right, and the song is just very pretty and simple.

Well, that's a compliment. Thank her for me! And you too brother.

I encourage you to download a copy if you haven't already, and feel free to send it to anyone you believe, it could be of encouragement to.

Thank you. And I agree.. all the best songs are inspired. We don't always know where they come from, and because they are inspired, they are so easily lost if we don't record them right away, or finish them that day.

I've lost more songs like that, in the past, it's not even funny!
