Ok this is a toughy.
I treat what I call the guide vocal like just another instrument, do you? I've tried various ways but what seems to be working at the moment is using the keys to generate a pattern and try to fit the written word right into these slots. Does that sound odd?

Of course what I trying to do wholesale is create a method of writing too, make things as simple as they can be, (for me cuz I am simple). So I can then move forward at a greater pace.

If you can imagine (sure you can). Two key tracks, one backing, one guide vocal. Again does this sound odd? I guess having written this its no different to how you play the keys in any case right?

Lots of thoughts. As many as there are wires and components to hook up this day.

No worries. I knew I would have a hard time explaining this. I'll just do it and wonder how I did it as opposed to wondering how I am going to do it and do nothing.

I think he's saying that he uses the keyboard to create a melody first, and then writes lyrics to fit the melody line he laid down.

So, he writes the melody line, then makes the lyrics fit, as opposed to the other way around.

At least that's what I thought I was getting out of it???

I indeed am a weird pot of flesh.

The toughest part of writing melodies, for me, is keeping them from sounding like a guitar solo. Nothing beats a good, whistleable melody line!

[b]My advise---Decide on your topic, write a vignette and get as elaborate and out there as you can with it . Find the beginnings of your melody and go slow with it and as you progress with that, think about how you would naturally speak the different pieces of your vignette and apply the cadence of those words to the rhythm of your melody. Keep in mind to always look for clever ways to apply verbs and emotional phrases. Don't forget the bridge should be related yet unexpected.

I like to use a track that is not much more than a vocalization (melodically speaking) of where I think the tune is going. Your guide track sounds to be the same thing.

That track gets edited out before it's done and replaced with a regular vocal with intelligible lyrics or that's the intention.

Yes it is a minds eye into what you are thinking expressed in terms of images. You know this could mean many things too to different people?
Vent of anger thrusts chord into song, A painting you saw on the floor that made an impact and so on......

I don't have writers block at all. I was just asking if anyone had a routine at all reality? I'm trying to create one so I can get the ideas out. Perhaps that idea is one and the same thing? Perhaps I just should not rush it frankly. Last night it was 1:30 am when an Idea came to me. I was fully armed thankfully and have it recorded.

I'm a linear, bottom line person so to me ideas travel in straight lines while juxtaposed vertical events can be dragged into the chain, be moulded thus changing them forever. Or of course until the next man sees it and has another idea about it?

Rather like creating DNA in fact. After all it is a string.
