Ok... my 7 string keeps going out of tune. Anybody have experience with "Locking" tuners like Schaller?

Rick, you oughtta know it's the same old sh*t...LOL

Times are tough. Nobody's getting much new stuff these days, & it gets us to bitching about everything under the sun.

Hey I got a new 6 inch Zil Bell and 12 inch trashy China. SWEET! Oh yeah and the Dow is down again and the Democrats no longer have a filibuster proof majority.

Yeah they cost about that much. One of these days I want to own a nice sounding acoustic.

Your next electric should be a HERITAGE, lookum over. Investigate the history.

I can second that heritage comment: not because I own one, but my brother does. and he gigs tons/plays tons and LOVES that guitar.

I'm quite happy with my Dean Artists Model, but you should always go for the sound of the individual guitar when looking for an acoustic, because every one is different, It isn't like an electric. The wood, the glues, it all makes such a huge difference that you can play two that were built out of the same tree on the same day by the same ppl & there will be a huge difference!

I had an Oscar Schmidt that was pretty good, & it was only a cpl hunnert bucks brand new. I had a Takamine that was awesome, too, & I've played some damned good Alvarez in my time. Still, I've also played some pretty drab-sounding guitars. One of the biggest surprizes was a Taylor that just sounded like crap in spite of the $2,500 price tag that a friend bought. He was one of those guys that thought price was all that mattered, though, so he was happy with his wall-hanger. I'd use it for firewood, myself. It was that bad.

When it comes to acoustics, labels & prices mean little to me.

Philby, I've had that experience two, maybe three times now.
A aylor 814 Walnut, a Taylor Jumbo(model? but it was 2K +) and another that escapes me.

I was truly amazed at the ..muddiness of the sound.
I was wondering the other day, if they are not covered by too much stuff on top of the soundboard or something...

The Jumbo surprised me the most, as despite it's size, my humble (at the time) Larrivee L-10 just ate it up for overall sound quality/loudness etc

not to mention: $$
Which is why I'm such a bigot to toward a certain aforementioned brand.

:)

I had the same happen to me playing a gibson acoustic. I thought it sounded terrible and it was over $2K
