I wonder if theres a mental condition for that?
Or maybe west virginia is really that strange, and hes one of the few that are awake enough to notice it.
Phil, can you give us a brief history of your animal encounters?

Also, I've of't'en wondered - does the term 'animal husbandry' take on a special meaning in the countryfied states?

p.s.
I found the most awesome phobia of all time.
'Zemmiphobia'

Look it up :)

Since I moved here, I've made quite the fool of myself with my ignorance of animal habits, I must admit, Zip, but I'm learning.

I really HAVE seen some very odd things, though.

A dead squirrel standing on three legs, holding his front right paw as if he were about to take another step when he died & froze in that pose. His eyes & mouth were covered by gnats, so I know it was dead.

I saw a turtle who appeared to jump off a little rise on the side of the road. He went nearly 2 feet! I would never have believed it was possible if I hadn't seen it.

A squirrel running across the road holding one of its young, I think. The strange part? It was running on its 2 hind feet & looked almost like a running human. You would have had to see it to understand how weird that looked. I wouldn't have thought it was anatomically possible.

A 7 foot black snake in one of my rabbit pens being literally torn apart by a rabbit.

Psychic deer (see that other poat).

Pileated woodpeckers eating my house. I'm gonna kill one of them one day & do it up like a cornish hen! (I know...nothing odd here...except they're so bold about it that they often won't even fly away when I yell at them.)

I'm not really 100% sure, but I think I saw one of those legendary big black cats on the lil mountain near here. All I really saw was the hind quarters & tail, but they were definitely NOT those of a house cat.

I nearly tripped over a gray fox one time, when I was gathering wood in the woods with a cast on my foot. I think he waited until I was 2 feet away to run, just to taunt me. Animals seem to taunt me a lot.

I kicked a beaver in the head once, cuz it scared me when I was fishing by walking right up to me with a tree in its mouth. I didn't think that wild animals would be so bold, but if I'd have stood still, he would have walked right through me, I do believe.

I've been attacked by an emu when I stood too close to a fance.

Every time I get near someone's pet rat, they climb up to my ear and make those icky sniffing sounds & tickle me with thier whiskers. This has happened 4 times, & it never fails to oook me out. ("Zemmiphobia?" LMAO!)

I've whistled the blues with some local birds, & they are often right on time with that little "beep beep" call & answer thing.

I put a male cat in a rabbit pen one time. The male rabbit raped him. He seemed to like it.

I went to a STCKMASTERS house recently. He has llamas. When they saw me & my grandson, 2 of them raised up on thier back legs & waved thier front paws in the air, almost like a salute. He's never seen them do that before or since.

Any tornadoes there recently Phil?

Did you used to have a dog named Toto?

Anyone told you recently... "You're not in Kansas anymore!"

I've had several encounters with bears and snakes but only one animal scares me: the ape with no fur...

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention the time I was wrestling with a rottweiller & got bitten by a snake in the grass...THAT one hurt me big time! It was a copperhead.

I heard that!

Nature itself may very well share that concern! :(

Now thats what I'm talkin about!

Phillip, I wasnt trying to poke any fun at your understanding of wild animals.
I never noticed any ignorance on your part - I just love the stories.

The giraffes at the local zoo used to intentionally lean over the fence and swipe my ice cream cone, but thats the weirdest animal thing Ive ever been around.
Of course, I couldnt really be too mad at them because they used to sell these treats that looked like an ice cream cone, that people could feed to them.

The zoo policies back then were weirdest part I guess.

Aw heck. Zip. I know it's all in fun, & I laugh about the odd all the time...but I often wonder if it's ME that's odd, & they're just doing what they've always done & I just happened to miss it...

Sometimes I really DO feel about as dumb as dumb can be, when it comes to animals...or anything else, for that matter...

 :? :D

I was fishing with my brother in Alaska once and 30 Orcas past us on all sides of the boat slapping their tales at us cuz we were in their way. That was mind blowing.
