I pulled a well pump for a guy last summer. I just found out that I could have been fined $5,000 for that! You can't even pull up your OWN well pump anymore, cuz you can supposedly flook up the aquifer if you drop the pump or something.

Now they're gonna fine me if I replace someone's TOILET!?!?!?

Since when is this stuff rocket science? I'm being legislated out of existence!

I'd write my congressman about this crap, if I thought he could actually READ!!!!!!!

I've been doing this sort of work for 20 years, but now, suddenly I'm not qualified o do anything much at all, or I need special insurance that costs BIG MONEY to do my job.

Sorry, but ya know what? I'm a lil pissed off...

Me thinks that there must've been lawsuits that caused the change in laws. That stupidity happesn here in CA all the time.

Phil. When work was around I used to do a lot of tile work. I was always asked to fit this and that in baths and kitchens. I soon learned that was a bad idea due to regulations here too. Don't take this the wrong way. Cowboys are everywhere, you and I suffer because of that.

All I know is that it's a damned shame that a man can't make a decent living doing what he knows how to do.

I cannot afford the outrageous costs of insurance to do a simple roof repair. I can't change someone's toilet, although I've done it dozens of times, with no bad results, & get paid for it.

They're whittling down what ppl can do, even for themselves, in thier own homes!

I guess I'll just hafta be an outlaw, & do what I can with what I've got, at least until I'm caught & jailed for refusing to pay a fine for doing those things for which I've been trained to do through years of experience.

It is all about increasing income for the local and state governmental agencies. Hell you have to buy a city permit to have a garage sale.

A lot of us loosing our freedom to work in our own homes or property is inspired by union politics. Plain old greed. I was an electriction in the Navy. I was good enough to work on a few million dollar ship but I can't wire a light in my $200.00 shed. Go figure.

That is all big government wanting to get bigger Philby. They want you to get a special license to do your job and they make money off of the fee they charge you for the license. Then everytime you do a job you have to get a permit and they charge a fee for that. If you don't pay the fee's they fine you and make a criminal out of you. I think the real criminals are the folks that lie to us so we will elect them and then legislate the poor working man into a bunch of criminals. Then you have folks like our soon to be ex Govenor of Texas that want to take peoples land thru the imminant domain law (by force) and build a highway from Mexico to Canada so a Mexican company can charge U.S. citizens tolls. By the way Sarah Palin is coming to the University I work at today to Drum up support for our soon to be ex Govenor (good hair) Rick Perry.

I got a little off topic there Sorry when the government wants more money they raise those fee's and say look what a good job I did, I didn't raise taxes and that is all those fee's are TAXES they are a bunch of LIARS all of them.

You're quite right, sans & JH! The local gov't's are geting to be even worse than the ones at the national level when it comes to controlling me, the little guy. It just keeps getting worse, & I'm getting damned tired of it!
