Artie Lange reportedly tried to commit suicide over the weekend.

NEW YORK - Artie Lange’s hospitalization earlier this week was reportedly a result of nine self-inflicted stab wounds in apparent suicide attempt.

According to a New York Post Page Six source, the troubled comic and “Howard Stern Show” regular attempted to take his own life over the weekend. A law-enforcement source told the paper that his mother found him in his New York apartment on Saturday morning and frantically called 911.

Lange reportedly suffered six “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges.

A source close to the comic’s management team confirmed the stabbing to the paper.

Lange underwent surgery and was saved despite severe bleeding.

Earlier this week, Howard Stern talked about Lange’s long battle with drug addiction, saying, “We all have our demons. Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He’s a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don’t forget how great he is.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Lange has been absent from the radio show in recent weeks, having left on an indefinite hiatus earlier in December.

Quite frankly I never thought the guy was funny.

I always thought the HS show sunk like a rock when Jackie left.

You probably have more of the attitude... "These people are wealthy and famous, and they probably deserve the lives they create for themselves... there are some of us out here with REAL problems, and we can't afford psychologists and plastic surgeons and personal trainers to help us deal with them. And yet I haven't stabbed myself 9 times!"

I've seen you show genuine compassion for people you feel are true victims.

For me, personally, I've come to feel sorrow for everyone's grief, whether self-inflicted or not. We all face demons at times, and when someone's are strong enough to want them to forfeit the only life they have.... yeah... I feel sorry for them, whether they seem to deserve it or not.

Suicide is just plain stupid.
Especially with a knife. [/b]

Actually, I feel pretty much nothing for anyone who tries to take his own life. I've been there, ya know, that low, & I got over it. I figger if I can do it, any idiot can do it, cuz I'm like a king in the world of idiots.

I didn't like his humor. I find it kinda stupid to try to kill yourself without serious physical reasons, like extreme pain with terminal cancer or somesuch. I have no rspect for him at all.

His being famous or rich or whatever has nothing to do with it.

Had a real close friend kill himself over some poontang.
Not sure he really did it or if someone had him wacked.
( Strip club owners are often "connected" )
I'm still pissed at him.

God rest his soul.

Odd is not the word.

That's violently painful. I don't know if there are enough drugs not to FEEL that!

CarbonMonoxide in a car all night in some parking garage seems the least painful way I can think of.... just go to sleep, listening to your favorite music...

Ok, got to stop talking that way!

He's a Jersey home boy that ran into millions of dollars and has issues with his fathers death. He's street wise and street dumb at the same time. He has issues like a lot of people and needs compassion not spite, envy, ridicule or just plain stupidity. Has no one ever experienced turmoil in their life before. Cut the human a break.

Cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it already man. That's my policy.

Am I being un-christian like ?

Yep KG, when Jackie left, the whole chemistry was wrong. I stopped listening because instead of Jackie keeping Quivers in line, Artie just sucked her "A", and there was nobody to call her on her annoying B.S.
