Craig,
Sounds like there's a song in there somewhere, (has a nice cadence to it)
With you're songcrafting abilitys, should be able to have a demo by this afternoon!

Ok, I took the bait! ;-)

With a nod to Phil.... The song: "Happy OLD Year" is uploaded on my profile.

Sorry I didn't get it done by this "afternoon" but I got it done by the night!

Not too bad!

;-)

You should get a kick out of it.

Let me know if you like it, considering it was a rush job!

Here's the lyrics if anyone needs them.

Remember that the song is all just tongue in cheek fun!

Feel free to comment!

Happy Old Year © 2010 Craig Maxim

Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm a negative creep
But every year, it's the same damn thing
Making resolutions that no one keeps

And that New Year's baby, his diaper seems a little wet
I'm not gonna set myself, up for regret
Cause no one knows, the future yet, so...

--------------------- CHORUS ------------------------
Happy Old Year, yeah... Happy Old Year
At least I know where I've been
-------------------------------------------------------------

Here come my friends, Cause the Countdown clock's in sight
They say, a little champagne, Will start your New Year right
But I don't need a holiday to drink all night

I know their just being nice, and that I get
But each year they share, The same sentiment
And it ain't improved a damn thing yet, so...

(Chorus)

---------------------------------- SPOKEN --------------------------------------

Every year people are always asking me..
What's your New Year's resolution?
So, this time I told 'em..
Well, my resolution this year, is not to have any resolutions!
So, what do you think about that, huh?

Well I realized the moment those words had passed my lips,
that I had just broken that resolution, by resolving not to resolve anything in the first place!
So I thought... Well maybe I should just resolve not to resolve things
that cannot be resolved by trying to resolve` them, when they are unresolvable?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Makes me want to give up,The whole damn thing, so...

(Chorus)

You know that New Year's baby, is one baby
I'm throwin' out with the bathwater!

Just listened to it. Good stuff there, Craig. Especially for being a rush job. And that "lead guitar" is actually keyboards? Most excellent. You'll be putting us guitarists out of some jobs. :)

:D LOVE IT !!

If you played that all on a keyboard I'll have to wonder why I even own a guitar. :(

WooHoo!!!

Thanks guys!

And I won't be putting any guitarists out of work.

LOL

I don't believe ANYTHING will ever match the tone and nuances of the real thing. But Roland's Fantom G keyboard, sure has some good guitar sounds. And I think I am one of the better players that I have seen so far, at bringing them to life and getting close to a real lead guitar player. I'll see on YouTube, where keyboardists put up videos saying: "shredding guitar on keyboard" or whatever, but they are usually dry performances. I mean alot of those guys would kick my ass on keyboard, but they play like keyboardists not guitarists usually. Loses the spirit of the real thing.

I'm just glad I have something to get my ideas out.

I still want a band again.

I have gotten, I don't know how many bands, that want me for their singer, and have contacted me on BandMix and MySpace, but are in other states or cities 150 miles away in the same state. In the last month I have gotten 3 or 4 requests from bands in the area I just moved from!!!!

:-(

Go figure.

Now I'm in an even smaller city... "Saint Mary's, Georgia"

So it may be awhile before I can play with real people again.

LOL

Thanks again for the comments guys!

Makes the work worth it! :-)

Thanks Phil!!!

It came together pretty well. It was tricky trying to figure out how to make that "resolve/unresolvable" line work, since it is not in meter and is kind of long. Finally I decided that talking it out was best, although I thought I sounded a little too George Thorogood-ish in parts.

But your "Hapy Old Year" comment I thought was the perfect line to bring this all together, and have a reasoon to recite the "resolve/unresolvable" spiel.

Plus...

You were kind of the pattern for the song in a way. ;-)

Cause I could see someone telling you "Happy New Year" and you responding something like "Hey man, I aprreciate the senitment and all, but you've been wishing me a Happy New Year for the past 5 years and it ain't worked yet!"

LOL

So, I think I owe you copyright credit for the lyrics. Yes, I know you aren't the first person to ever say "Happy Old Year" but had I not seen that comment, I might have just made it a song about New Year's RESOLUTIONS and left it at that, and THIS... THIS was MUCH better!

You know... nothing may ever come of this song, but with some luck, it could be a little rebel-anthem of sorts for New Years time every year. Cause it's different, and everything else pretty positive and cutesy. This is a good rebel song to have a beer to! I could see 'em liking it in biker bars and country joints... well, country joints that are rowdy, like the bar in the original Blues Brothers Movie, with the chicken wire protecting them. Remember? LOL

So, when if and when I get around to (get money for) registering it, I would like your name to be on it bro. If you're cool with that?

Thanks for the inspiration either way!

;-)

Hell yeah!

It kills me, some of the talent on here, and so many of us live so far away from each other. We've talked about this before... that we could have some KILLER bands off the players on these boards!

But it's fun collabing long distance too.

Now that I've moved and things have settled down a little, I can work on two songs I am collaborating on... One for Mary's beautiful flute, and one for Ryan's amazing screaming prowess, or as we lovingly refer to it.... Cookie-Monster Vocals! :-)

But Ryan's one of the best I've ever heard at that. And I think it would make for killer effect on some song ideas I have, so he's agreed to work with me... in fact, he's patiently waiting for me to send him a song right now...

Better get to working!

Thanks again brother, the comments keep the juices flowing!
