As reported by several sources, actress / singer Brittany Murphy passed away earlier today, December 20th at the tender age or 32. Los Angeles Police are still investigating the death of the multi talented artist, who apparently died from cardiac arrest in her West Hollywood home.

Murphy was best known for playing offbeat characters, some with a troubled past. The Atlanta-born Murphy costarred in 8 Mile with Eminem, and Girl, Interrupted, with Angelina Jolie. Her first Hollywood job, at age 14, was as the star of the series, "Drexel's Class".

In 2003 Murphy achieved mainstream pop culture status not as much from her work but because of her engagement to actor / producer Ashton Kutcher who was also her costar in 2003's "Just Married".

On Sunday Kutcher Tweeted, "see you on the other side kid ... 2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Although Murphy was known for her film roles, Murphy was also known as a very talented singer with solid chops. Murphy teamed with DJ Paul Oakenfold to release a single "Faster Kill Pussycat," which became a club hit and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. (See below video)

"I've been singing anonymously my whole life... I've sung the hooks on a lot of rap and R+B songs - I just never took the credit. "Music has been a part of my soul since I was born. It's something that I've always done, but I've done it very quietly. Now I guess this is the beginning of doing it not so quietly." Murphy was quoted in 2006.

"I'm a serious karaoke aficionado. I even have a T-shirt that says 'I love Karaoke'." And talented Murphy confesses to being a proficient musician too: "I can play any instrument - just give me 20 minutes. I can play a little bit of everything by ear. The only thing I actually stuck to for a while was the trumpet."

Posted this new article, because I found some things interesting...

I didn't realize she was a musician too!

And I really liked hearing about her unassuming nature, having done vocals on some rap songs, and not wanting credit for it.

Music seemed to be a big part of her life, and she was ABOUT the MUSIC apparently, which is more than I can say for some of these other ACTORS that think they are also singers, but aren't...

Like actress Julie Lewis:

Or Scarlett Jahanson:

But Brittany's movie Uptown Girls is one that I liked, and music and musicians figure prominently in the movie. Her character is the daughter of some famous musician in the movie. When I watched it, I had some weird feeling, wondering if maybe she was connected to famous musician parents or something in real life?

Maybe I was picking up on her music vibe? The sincerity she had when key parts of the movie had to do with musicians, guitars, etc...

She was very talented in many areas apparently.

Makes me sad.

Simon Monjack Was Due for Heart Bypass, Says Spokesman

Simon Monjack, who was found dead in the Hollywood home where he lived with Brittany Murphy's mother Sharon, had suffered heart trouble but had been putting off surgery.

"Simon needed a [heart] bypass," according to Roger Neal, a spokesman for Simon, Sharon and the Brittany Murphy Foundation. "I was told he needed a bypass, and I said to him, 'Simon, you have so much going on, let's keep you healthy.' I said, 'You want to be healthy. Don't you?' He said yes, but he said, 'The bypass can wait.' "

As for how serious Monjack’s condition was, Neal says, "I don't know how much of an emergency it was. The doctors would have made him get it immediately if he needed it, but Sharon confirmed with me he did need a bypass. They didn’t make it public because he had so much going on."

Monjack's had a history of health issues. In January, his mother, Linda Monjack, told PEOPLE that her son was "unwell” and that he had suffered "a slight heart attack" a week before Brittany’s death.

The firefighters who responded to Sharon Murphy's 911 call Sunday night reported that he may have suffered a heart attack, according to L.A. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. "We're not sure if it is natural causes or a possible accident," added Winter, "maybe because of the prescription medication found there."

In February, Monjack told PEOPLE that he had survived a battle with oral cancer. (Something of which his mom had claimed to have no knowledge.) He also noted that an anti-seizure medication found at the house at the time of Brittany's death was intended for his use, but she did not elaborate.

"If he had prescription medication, I believe that's all it was," Neal tells PEOPLE. "I don't believe he had an overdose ... As far as empty bottles, I don't know anything about that. If you have a heart condition you're going to have prescription medication for yourself. You're going to be on some kind of medicine."

In addition to planning a trip to Europe with Sharon Murphy, Monjack had been helping to arrange a gala to launch the Brittany Murphy Foundation in September.
