Susan Boyle is to duet with Andrea Bocelli on a forthcoming ITV special.

Boyle, who recently beat the Italian tenor to the top of the the US charts with debut album I Dreamed A Dream, will join forces with him on ITV1 show Pop Star To Opera Star.

An insider told The Sun: "Susan has held Andrea off the top of the US charts for weeks - it's incredible.

"But he holds no grudges, he joked that he 'must sing with this amazing woman'."

When the Susan Boyle story broke big I knew that it would lead to something great. Finally somebody is recognized for their ability to sing, and not their ability to make a sexy video. It was a major breakthrough in the music world...

X2! It is refreshing for a non hottie to make it big!

This ought to be great! Two Killer vocalists!

I agree. And it is a wonderful compliment to her, as a newcomer, that Andrea is dying to sing with her so badly.

What a story her life is. And so remarkable that it came to her later in life.

Never give up on your dreams.

Gee...I wonder how she feels to be described as a "non-hottie!"

That's all I seem to hear about - how f*cking AMAZED ppl are that someone who's rather plain can actually have some sort of talent! IMAGINE THAT!

I wish ppl would just stfu about her frikken looks already!

Makes me feel bad...I'm a bit of a "non-hottie" myself!

The amazing part is not that she is a non hottie and has talent. The amazing part is that she is a non hottie who got chance!

Face it. The only hotties are under 30. Not me of course! Almost no one here.

Be we all have talent!!! :D :D :D :D 8) :D 8) :D 8) :D

You are as hot as you feel and don't let anyone talk you down.

The world is full of people who want to see you crash and burn.

I say, don't give them the satisfaction.

Not to be negative, But do you guys really think she sounds that great? I mean she sounds good to me, but does she really deserve the attention she has gotten? If she had been a super hottie would she still be as big as she is? Just curious................

I will add that Im glad that someone like her got the chance that shes been given, but can she handle it, thats the next question?

Yes you are being negative JW. I agree with a lot of what you say but how can you suggest her voice is not up to it? :D
Come on man she can sing like Julie Andrews and a few others without a flaw.

I'll buy her album when I next get out there. She has a stunning and captivating voice, sounds like an Angel to me to be honest and a step back in singing from the constant over used vibrato in pop songs.

I think she great and deserves everything good coming her way.

Tuppence spent. :D

Personally, I think her voice is a throwback type. Her possible future career reminds me of Chris Isaac (who had a short run of success), in that there will be some ppl who love it, but it will soon be forgotten because it is not adaptable to the more modern approach to music.

Unless she starts warbling r & b scales throughout every song she sings, ppl will soon forget her pure honest good voice.

She's simply too specialized to remain in the spotlight for long. I also doubt that her personality will allow her to remain famous for any length of time, since she's already had a bit of a breakdown. She seems too fragile to handle fame & fortune.

I agree with Phil and JW123, and am similarly worried about her mental state in handling the fame, although, it seems she already had that episode and came through it. Certainly... her handlers know about it now, and can hardly afford to be made monsters, if the darling of the public goes off the deep end.

Although...

Here is, maybe, a better question.... What happens when she LOSES the fame, after handling it, and maybe even coming to depend on it? Will that cause tremendous feelings of depresssion then? An unstoppable roller coaster? Fame and then wanting out, and then embracing fame again, and then losing it?

And I agree with Chippy, that she has a wonderful voice. It is a tad raw at times for the style she sings, which has to be perfect, but... She -IS- raw, and professional vocal instructors, are ALREADY, trust me, teaching her better methods of singing and breathing which can only make her BETTER!

And good comparison... Julie Andrews is fairly close, but she may end up being better than that, because she has more power in lower ranges, and therefore a fuller and richer voice, I think.

Singing with Andrea will tell anyone all they need to know.

We'll see what she's made of for sure then.

I suspect it will be a beautiful combination of voices, and she will be magnificent.

EDIT: I have since heard some of her new songs from her album. Forget Julie Andrews my friend! OMG!!!

And this is much more, than about, being "ugly" or not.

It is a CINDERELLA story.

She appeared on that stage before Simon and the others, looking unkept and a little raggedy. The crowd was expecting that this was going to be a joke-type performance... you know... the people who THINK they can sing, but can't sing at all, and only THEY seem to NOT KNOW how bad they are.

That was a HUGE "set-up" which then produced an even more powerful reaction, once she started singing.

When you are not expecting much, and then get blown away, the amazement factor goes up.

And then after the revelation that she has a voice...

Once again, it is not merely about her looks, but the whole story.

She is OLDER, she has lived her life as a SPINSTER (unmarried) and alone, and being that age, it then dawns on people... "Where has she been? She's lived her whole life in obscurity, alone and unknown, when she sings like Julie Andrews, and WHO KNOWS what kind of career she could have had, if found earlier in life?"

It's just a beautiful "anything is possible" story!

It's the Cinderella story, but for an older generation.

LOL

It was basically the same for that other guy on UK Idol, or Britain's Got Talent, whatever it was... some postal worker or office worker, which no one had any idea he could sing like he did, and he was a decent opera singer... and he did much the same thing.

Only, she is better at her chosen style than he was at his.

She'll have more staying power.

Remember how the audience set themselves up?
It's STILL inspiring to watch them flip and then a standing ovation:

Here is a professional recording of her singing WILD HORSES:

Listen to her tone on Wild Horses and tell me she is not a wonderful singer! MAGNIFICENT arrangement too! Very moving! Very emotional! Listen to the whole thing and see if you don't agree!

Here is a found tape of her from 1984 singing LIVE at some function.

Okay, when I saw the title "Wild Horses," I had to kinda chuckle, for some reason. I guess I was remembering Mick's howling on that song.

She certainly did the song justice!

I don't think it was all that challenging for her, but I do like her version a lot. Simply beautiful. Her lows are some of the best in the biz, imho.

She gives me chills & goose pimplies.

I completely agree. Made me tear a little.

JW123 is right, but he is thinking of her early talent performances. She was a little shaky on some songs... it's natural.. it's fear... you are in front of a HUGE worldwide audience... And you KNOW... "this" is your shot, there will probably NOT be another one.

She felt some of that, although, if you look closely on the ORIGINAL talent performance, the first video I posted of the three.... watch her eyes before she starts singing... the people have been howling... cat call whistles as a joke, etc... and watch the little mischievous twinkle in her eyes, JUST BEFORE she starts singing. SHE KNOWS... she is about to blow their preconcepts out of the water.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!! :-D
