I was working on a song to do with Ryan, but I have musical ADD, LOL, and I hit a few chords, that reminded me of something. But I was already using rock guitars, so...

A rock version of George Benson's "On Broadway"




It's uploaded, but it's pretty rough, but I still like it. LOL

Only took me a few hours.

And before anyone catches it...

I forgot about the key changes in the original. I had done all the music already before I listened to the original again. Oops LOL

I only listened to it, cause I was checking the lyrics when it came time to do the vocals.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind doing this close to this ROCK style, in a band one day.

I don't know the whole story behind you and your band, Craig, but I have to say I really hear superb musical improvement for having gotten away from them. I've heard that song personalized a few different ways, but never that way. You have a SRV/Eagles feel to your style and I even think your vocals have improved alot being away from them, maybe its because you are putting yourself into it now fully? I don't know, but the sound is cleaner and more pure. I agree with Sans, you should definately keep it in your lineup, and I think you should forget the key change, it works as is.

I really think you sell yourself short by your choice of locations. You need to be in Nashville or NY or LA, somewhere where you can connect with other professional musicians looking to play their instruments, and let someone else be the brains of the outfit. You are have alot more potential now that you and the band have parted ways.

Simply amazing as always. I'd put that on a CD if I were you , along with the Star Spangled Banner. You can probably make ANY song sound great. Pick something really off the wall (Do The Hokey Pokey?) and record it just for fun. It'll probably kick ass...

That was awesome Craig. I always loved that song and I like your version as much or maybe even better than the original.

Craig my band used to just kinda jam on that years ago. Its been awhile, but I like different takes on older songs. If you are going to record something like this for recording purposes I guess you should try to own the song. Good Job, cause you sold me on it!

This is a perfect example of NOT COPYING A COVER SONG LIKE THE ORIGINAL. It's a real advantage to do a song LIKE YOURSELF. That's how to do a cover song in my opinion. It's called creative license. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO PLAY ANY SONG YOU WANT THE WAY YOU WANT. See what happens when you perform it at your gigs. I guarantee it'll be successful. When you perform songs the way you want to you'll have a big smile on your face, your enthusiasm will rub off on the audience and you'll succeed. Way cool Craig, keep'em coming...MORE...we want MORE!

Sure, brother, I'd love to play around with one of your songs, and put some backing tracks to it! If it turns out well, can I use it to promote my studio work? Backing tracks are one things I am trying get business in, and I want to do a "Before" and "After" promo demo or even video, where I tell potential customers... "You send us this... (someone singing on tape, with no backing or little backing) and... we will turn it into THIS: (completed full backing tracks). I wouldn't even have to use the whole song, just a clip of it, to show them what a final product would be like. But love to help you out with that either way.

Sometimes I feel "losing" my old band is gonna be the best thing that ever happened to me. Maybe it already is? The big thing, is that a few of the musicians were "adequate" but not really more than that. And one in particular, could sometimes take 2 or 3 weeks to learn ONE song. If it took him an average of 2 or 3 weeks to learn stuff, you're talking about maybe learning 20 songs in an entire year. But even this was not happening, because he would forget the old parts sometimes if we didn't play them regularly. The main thing is that he just would never practice at home, and he really needed to, to keep up with the rest of us. Constantly practicing the stuff we were supposed to know, meant a limited amount of new songs that I could bring in to the band.
