Kaboom!

Today is the best day I've had in a long time... Wow. Feel like a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I feel like anything is possible today.

My band blew up this morning - went Kaboom! - and I couldn't be happier.

We had rehearsal yesterday, and it wasn't pretty. Personality conflicts... pain... arguments... disappointment... selfish behavior... ugh. And all the while, we're supposed to be prepping for a gig in early December - a gig that was booked. And all I could think of was, "I don't want to work with this person anymore; not even for a gig"

My singer and I just didn't want to go any further with our current drummer. But we weren't sure how to proceed...

And then when things looked the bleakest, our drummer calls up this morning, we have a discussion about the conflicts, and he quits.

And it's like the chains fell off.

I feel all possibilities today.

So, now I'm free to go work with the originals band that I have been invited to work with. Meanwhile, my singer and I decided this was not the end; we like working with each other so much, we're going to reboot the band with other musicians we know that we really respect and we believe will be more attuned to our goals and our way of doing things...

I guess I'll be in two bands at once after all :)

I'm stunned though; amazed at how good I feel today. I wonder if this is what divorce feels like. All the conflict just melts away now.

I have noticed that the most popular time for band break-ups is late fall/early winter. Bands are reinvented after Christmas. I'm getting ready to find a new drummer, our current guy doesn't return phone calls and either plays too fast or too slow. Best of luck with your projects.

Thanks!

Feels good today to face this future with it wide open. I've already talked to a drummer that I really admire and he's agreed to join us. I think, from a technical standpoint, he's one of the best drummers I've played with, but from a personality standpoint it's even better; he's just a great, humble guy with a really open mind; I really like his attitude.

I especially like the idea of being able to rehearse without drama...

Colors Ive been in to many situations like the one you described. I play for money, but I still play to have fun. If there is some sort of conflict in rehearsal, it probably wont work no matter what you do. When I get with new folks Ilike to do a feeler gig real quick to make sure its worth my while to even be involved. SOme folks are just closet players, they dont know how to play live and entertain.

Good Luck with your music and new attitude, it sounds like Karma played into your situation!

Good luck Colors. All comes to he who waits. Sure you'll do fine with the new project. I didn't but in on this one to try to sway you any but I thought what you were saying about the new project was very energetic!

Good luck again!

Yeah Chippy,

The 2nd band I auditioned for officially extended an invite to me last night, so I accepted. I'm having a lot of fun with their original material and I like them personally.

And now my own band is rebooting and we're all feeling pretty positive about the future; there is definitely a high energy in the air. I can't wait to get rehearsing again with this group (now I just have to figure out the P.A., because it went bye-bye with the drummer).

At first I didn't really want to be in two bands at one time, but now that my own band has rebooted I actually want to do both projects. They're both very different - one original, one covers - but they both rock.

Go for it colors

In the Memphis area it seems like all the active musicians play in 2 or more bands.

I think doing some covers along with originals will help some if you start writting originals.

Keep On Rockin! As long as you can!

I have always said that being in a band is the same as being married. If you don't believe it, you will when your band breaks up damn! it can be a mess. Or it could be very liberating.
