Hey all, I was just wondering if anybody here is 'in the same boat as me', so to speak.

I was drumming in a 2-piece for almost a year, and the guitarist finally 'dumped me'. I have a crappy job where I work pretty much every weekend, and he got sick of me not being as available as he wanted. I can't even say that I blame him.

I've been trying for over a month, but haven't been able to find anybody else to jam with. Either I'm too old and they're too young, we have totally different music styles, or just whatever.

Anybody else in the middle of this?

I would dump you too if you were drumming in a 2-piece bikini in MY band. LOL

Just kidding...You're in a tough spot. Obama is President, and the economy is bad, and it's hard to get out of work and have time to yourself these days.

Thankfully, I'm moving to Texas in 12 days. Time for a new start; new job, college, and hopefully get a good band going down there.

Keep up the search, and go to shows/concerts in the free time you DO have and ask around for other musicians...You'll find something

Yeah, everything you said is pretty much true. I'm not giving up, but I might as well be very, very patient. There's no shortage of rock musicians where I live... it's just a matter of finding the right ones.

I wish you all the luck in the world in your new life in Texas! Sounds pretty cool.

What really sucks is having talent and NOT being in a working band. It's happening to very fine musicians all over the place. And it drives me crazy. I KNOW we're good, damn good. But try and find a venue to gig at, anywhere. There's SO many good acts and SO few places to play. IT SUCKS. I think most people are in the same boat. Don't feel you're an exception...

Yep.

I know I'm not a great drummer. I'm probably pretty average, but I do have my own style, I've been told I keep great time, and I really, really miss playing.

And the crazy thing is, I'm not even looking for anything other than to play for fun! Wrong place at the wrong time, I guess.

In your case please stay away from the front of moving busses. Good luck any way the right situation is allways just around the corner ,just ask CRIP.

If you want to play music seriously you will have to alter your lifestyle to fit the program. Most bands play on weekends, if I get involved with musicians who work on weekends I ignore them cause they arent going to be able to take off and play anyway. Find a job that gives you weekends and evenings off, then get back after the musician thing.

I know this isnt what you want to hear, but as for myself Ive built a lot of my life around the ability to get out and play music when need be and am available to play when the band needs to play. Not just to fit my convenience.

In the meantime practice your ass off as much as you can so when the time comes you will be ready to do it with the minimum of practice.

I just crack up at guys saying Im in a band. I say where are you playing so I can come hear you, and they say well weve been together for 3 yrs and have never done a gig. I say when do you practice, they say well weve had a coupld of practices over the past couple of years but we cant ever get anyone together. Then they say noone in it knows the songs when we get together, so we only have a couple of jams that we do in the key of G and A.

Does this sound familiar to anyone on here? Just curious, the above is not a musician in my opinion, they are a POSER!

If you want to play music get off your ass and play!

Sounds like your availability is the major issue- not being available on weekends is a huge problem to anyone who wants to gig. If you can't resolve that, or at least compromise to every other weekend or something, you will always have trouble. Also, two-piece bands are difficult on the best day, unless it's acoustic of course.

Keep trying, but also try to be more flexible and you will find more people willing to work with you.
