Rockers, Punks, Metal Heads: How Many of You 'Look the Part?

These days, I'm into heavy, alternative rock/metal, but for over 20 years, I listened to Hardcore, Thrash, and even some Death Metal. I'm half black and half white, my hair is shaved down to stubble, I sport not a single tattoo, I have no piercings, and I don't talk or act 'cool'. I do not own a leather motorcycle jacket, nor do I *smoke, drink, or use drugs. I'm also a huge comic book and action figure collector, and I make loads of corny jokes.

The point is, everybody is always astounded when they find out I'm into rock, and I'm a drummer. Nobody ever suspects it! I do not look the part, so to speak.

Does that happen to any of you guys?

:)

*In case anybody wonders, I'm not religious, and I make no judgements against anybody who uses

I don't dress based on my musical preference, unless its a band shirt. Jeans and a band t-shirt are my usual attire, and you'll never catch me in leather, spikes, or with extremely long hair...

Yes I do.
As I stand with my Les Paul in front of that wall of rockin sound.
And that IMO is all that matters.

I look like me.

Sure, I don't do the 'comb-over' hair or anything, but I generally wear t-shirts with unbuttoned dress shirts at gigs. Not much of an image, but it's consistent and beats wearing shit-kickers or a ten gallon hat.

Yes Kramer, you look like you. You look like you rockin the house.
And if the house looks like their rockin, what more can a guitarest ask?
I focus a lot on my axe and equipment. Playing my parts, changing tone, volume, channels, reverb on or off. But when I do look out and see someone movin to the groovin, well hell yea, it's only rock and roll but I like it, like it, yes I do.......................... :D

Well it's been a long time since I wore leather pants and haven't had long hair since the 70's. Most gigs I do are at punk/alternative venues so I usually just wear jeans and a t-shirt.

Well, no one would look at me and think that I play rock, classical, celtic. As a matter of fact, people usually think that I sing which is a fightening thought. People are shocked just when they hear Metallica coming from my car radio.

Well, I hope you guys know that I don't actually think anybody has to 'look' a certain way to be a musician. It's kind of a stereotype thing.

But generally, when you get into the more extreme music, it's not a surprise to see long hair, tatts, multiple piercings, leather jackets, etc... Granted, there are always exceptions. One of my fave bands, HELMET, is a perfect example.

But hell... at this point, I can't even afford t-shirts of the bands I like, so I reeeally don't look the part!

About 7 pairs of overalls. I've gotten spoiled to them to the point that I hate jeans. Or anything else really. That last pic is about 1996. I got spoiled to heelys in 1998 and never looked back. The neanderpaul uniform heelys and overalls!
