I finally got some multi-track software, and I can finally output in mp3.
This is guitar, Bass and drums.

If you are a bass player, you should be REAL interested in this song.

It's a pretty demanding bass-pattern; relentless to play, but pleasing to hear.

The guitar is NOT a typical blues or boogie at all - it's a lilting staccato sound, but it sure does make the song.

I think vocals would make this song shine, - maybe a harmonica . . .

Wow, that sounds a lot like a blues tune I wrote called "Why Ya Gotta Go Out At Night." I actually found myself singing my lyrics to your song. But, since you failed to include me in your list of opinions that matter... NEVERMIND!

So your's is a blues? Same key: 'A?'
I call my song a boogie, because of the bass-line.
There's a few spots that need polishing, yet . . .

I use about 15-20 chords to play this song, but you can distill it to get a blues.
If you simplify this song, it boils down to just a few chords, like most blues.
If you play blues in 'A', it should fit just fine.

So, what do you think? Is this song a Blues or a Boogie?

Let's call it a Blues Boogie. Mine is actually quite a bit faster, but I do believe it's in A. Either way, it's easily transposed into your key. What reminded me most was the general chord progression, however mine extends the progression a few measures longer before it repeats. If I can figure out how to use my powered head with the mic input I'll fool around with it a bit & see what happens. If I can, I'll send you an a capella version of my song, or maybe record my lyrics over your music. Sorry, I can't come over tonight, though; I have to work.

Yeah, usually when I play just Guitar, I wind up playing it about 1 1/2 times the speed. But then the bass line is way too fast.

Yeah, it's ok with me if you record some your lyrics along with my Bass & guitar.
If you haven't recorded with your computer before, be real careful of the input volume. An ocassionally red zone is ok w/ tape, but with digital, never go in the red zone, or the clipping sounds bad.
But, anyway, it'd be cool. Never heard you before.
Gee, it's too bad we're so far away from each other, seeing how our music is so compatable.

I enjoyed all of your recordings thoroughly. I like the bass to your recommended song, and the guitar work was pleasant. Good all around in my book.

If you want to see a crappy little recording I made, go for it. It's a really soft and simple rock song I made for someone I know. I did a little more on the bass, but it just shows what I can do with a 4 chord song, haha

Yeah, you can do a lot with just a few chords.
Often, the fewer chords you use, the more energetic a song becomes.

I wanted the Descending Boogie to be more 'laid back,' but it can be distilled to 3 chords.
The bass-pattern works itself into and out of 7ths and 9ths - no majors.

You can convert 'Descending Boogie' to a rock song. Go to all majors (A, D, E), pick a forceful rhythm, and add 20 times the 'enthusiasm.'

I like playing with songs - taking the same 3 chords, playing them in the same order, and changing the rhythm of those same 3 chords, so they sound like 2 - 3 different songs.
Anyway - keep on writing . . .

Yeah, it was all me, multi-tracked. I have the words written, just haven't found the correct feel as to how I want to sing it. Taking a lot more time than I originally planned, but it's making my vocal skill much more than it was before this project.

I also have to study the bassline I did. I forgot how to play it, I was just jamming with the song, so it makes it a little difficult to reproduce, haha.

I know what you mean about being unsure of which way to go with a song, or a part of it.
And, if you force it, sometimes you're not sure if ithe change is better, or worse.
At that stage, for me, it's a good idea to shelve the song. Otherwise I get 'mental feedback.'
I don't play it or listen to it for at least 3 days . . . maybe even a few months . . .
Then, when I finally listen to the recording, the direction is usually obvious.

I've had several originals which I'd been playing for years, where I realized I NEVER really liked the direction the song had turned. In other words, I finished writing the song too early.
I go back and listen to my old recordings, frequently. I find parts of songs, some treasure, and some trash.

I think the hard part is knowing what is worth keeping.
I suspect other composers have the same problem.
It seems that once a series of chords or notes or words are strung together, it's hard to discard them.
I've learned that a musician/composer/lyricist's best friend can be the Garbage Can.
Because whatever you don't throw out is your best stuff, and that's what you want other people to hear . . .
