Hey, all you guys who remember the 80's, when music videos were fresh and new, exciting...
What video(s) do you think emulated the mood/theme of the song best?
Here's two videos I personally thought hit grand-slams, right outta the park -

One of my favorites that comes to mind immediately:

Mostly because I still like the song today. I'll think of more here in a bit...

When I think of the 80's, it brings this stuff to mind -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldyx3KHOFXw (okay...not REALLY!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_8IXx4tsus (I think SRV was the guitarist on this one, but I'm not 100% sure)
one of my all-time faves -

I guess, for me, the 80's was a time to move away from the guitar-driven stuff. There was a lot of keyboard action, new & interesting rhythms & sounds & instrumentations & experimentations...I loved that about the 80's - the new. I LOVED the FIXX, Mexican Radio! I forgot all about that one! There's some great stuff here! The Billy Joel you chose was his best by far, imho, btw, Kramer.

Wow, didn't realize it was '92. I think of Peter Gabrial and I think of my high school years (late 80's).
In that case... back to YouTube...

I didn't mean to say it had to be from the 80's, I was just remarking on how new and inventive it all seemed back then compared to today-
But also didn't mean to say "what's your favorite video" as much as ask:
"what video was the visual equal to the heard song" (?) meaning, the video captured exactly the mood of the song-
The ones I chose, pressure, clearly because of the "stress" visually presented, and the other police song, I really never dug the lyrics, but the awesome morose sound of that song seemed to meld perfectly with the visual representation of the candles lined up, and all that candle-light and slow motion...
Before the invention of video, I could close my eyes listening to both those songs and never imagine a better representation, visually.
So mexican radio was a given - the video certainly did emulate the feel of the song, but the Fixx, while a great song and great vide, didn't exactly fit the description (red skies might have been closer, another awesome fixx song)

I never really got into music videos. I was rooming in a house with three gals and another guy when MTV first started. Everybody in the house was glued to MTV except me. I was glued to my harmonica and then my bass guitar (when I wasn't fishing).

OK a couple of my favorites.
I think Michael Nesmith won video of the year for this one:

and probably my all time favorite by Genesis:

Gotta love ol' ronnie rayguns...
What an excursion down the lane of fond memories....
I love Pressure and Mexican Radio too, coffee bubbling up out of Billy Joel's cup - head popping out of a pot of beans...insane but innovative and imaginative. Can't beat it.

Im not into links but my favorite was Iron Maiden Run To The Hills, I dont know before that I thought they were super duper serious and when I saw that video I know they were folks I could just hang out with.
Van Halen Hot For Teacher would be second in my book, but Run To The Hills is my fav!
