Obama got it...FOR
WHY?
It was decided in FEB, right after he took office.
Evidently you can buy yourself a Nobel for making campaign promises...
What's wrong with this picture?
It's nice that they waited awhile before waking him up to tell him about it, though, ain't it?
They claim that they want to encourage him & have high hopes for him.
Hey ppl! I could use a lil encouragement, too! Where's MY Nobel?
Would it help if I promised to be nicer?

This quote, from the article, says it all, for me -
"It's an award coming near the beginning of the first term of office of a relatively young president that anticipatesanevn gratr onriutontoars akngou wrl asaerplacefo all," Tutu said.
Did you get that?

The candidate nomination process is kept secret for 50 years so we won't know in our lifetimes. But it's not like winning an Oscar; it is based not just on your accomplishements, but by what potential you have to affect change. Of course this is debatable but it is something all Americans should be proud of.

I read the articles.
He was recieved world- with gasps of astonishment and disbelief..
He hasn't ACCOMPLISHED anything.
That's like getting a Gold or Silver Record for saying you're going to have a 'number one' album.
.
Don't take my word for it - go read the articles.
Leaders world-wide are shocked and dismayed that someone is getting an award for nothing.
I wish I could stand behind this president; but I can't . . .
I'm not proud of him; I'm ashamed of him . . . he seems to be a paper tiger.

My new grandson will probably look at this some years from now and wonder WTF was that all about. I was doing pretty good till those new economic bailouts started reaching the states, but my business is off 70 % from this time last year for the last 3 months. I hope we can make it another 4 years. The world voted him a nobel prize for being the man thats going to ruin the US.
But its still another day in Paradise !!!

If it helps, think of it as the world's way of slapping Bush more than hugging Obama.

Hes the A.C.
Just waiting for him to get mortally wounded and then miraculously recover -- then the world will be all set for the final ride

I am not a socialist
I understand basic economics
I am not an apologist for our nation
I do not seem to take slaps in the face from petty dictators
I really did not mean to send back that bust of Winston Churchill to Great Britain and slap THEM in the face. I mean, wtf did Churchill ever do or stand for?

What do you mean he hasn't accomplished anything?
I think getting elected as the first black president in American history - in a nation that still harbors deep racial hatred - with a campaign built on hope and promise for the future instead of fear and doubt and hate, winning against the juggernaut that is the Republican party, is a pretty damn great accomplishment.
Anyone who champions peace over war, talking over fighting, and education over ignorance, deserves some praise. Maybe the Nobel is too much too soon; but damn... after the past 8 years of allowing an ignoramus to run our country into the ground and drag us through the mud, sullying our reputation among the rest of the world... it's about time we had someone our children can actually look up to and admire.

The only thing he has championed is the destruction of freedom in the world.
I hate him, God forgive me I hate him.
And no I dont like him and hate his policies.
I hate him.
I dont hate him cause he's black or half black or whatever.
I hate him because he is dragging our country down the communist toilet.
Yes, I'm a hipocrite because I am supposed to love all my brothers.
God forgive me I hate him.
Did I happen to metion that I hate him?

It greatly dimishes, any real sense of the prize's value or significance. It is purely political in nature, otherwise they would have waited and given him the prize AFTER seeing whether anything he has done has had any peaceful effect on relations between nations.
It would seem that getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame may be a more difficult accomplisment at this point, than receiving the Nobel Prize for Peace.
And to follow up on that analogy, think about how much HOPE certain college players brought to their teams when they started their pro careers, only to fall by the wayside after a little time, and see their stars fade and their names fade into obscurity, because they couldn't cut it in the big league after all. If hope alone was worth so much, I guess those teams would have won championships merely for signing those college players.
Didn't work like that in real life though, did it?
The games had to be played. The proof had to come in the form of tangible results.
But with the Nobel prize for peace, I suppose tangible results are superfluous.
Who needs real peace, when you can just "hope" for it instead?
