had the priveledge to see EDDIE MONEY in concert, now before You atsrt in please look at it as I have. may not care for Him as a person however I really like Him as a musican.talk about a front man that work a crowd ? WOW!!!!! had peoplelaughing at His jokes... one went like this...I went fishing the otherday and was in the boat when I felt something nudging My foot. when I looke down I saw a cotton mouth that a frog in His mouth as I di NOT wish to get bit I grabbed Him behind His head.as I raised Him up out of the boat He spit the damn frog out in fear of gwetting bit as I released Him I did the ONLY thing I knew to do at the time.....took My bottle of Jack and dumped some down His throat than tosed Him over the side. a few minutes later I feel ANOTHER nudge, I looked down and to My amasement there was the same damn snake...THIS TIME HE HAD 2 FROGS IN HIS MOUTH!!!!!" then they started playing Take Me Home Tonight".
all in all was a great show. hard to believe that as old as He is He can still rock.
of course when He took the stage He seemed a "lil-loaded" but as I said "seemed" and as the show progressed He had a few "ladies" removing thier bras and flashing Him. was ok until the 60yr olds standing next to Me did the same... ( oh God I hope the therapist knows what He is doing as the sight STILL haunts Me...damn they had to pick them up off the floor to put them back... the HORROR!!!!!).
really enjoyed Myself, was able to meet and chat with the Band and the Money Man Himself after the show for about an hour. if this was ANY indication of how the bands of the 80's perform I can't wait ti see Bad Company and Dr. Hook this coming weekend at the Bike Fest. than next month looking forward to seeing StephenWolf as well as Lynard Skynard. ROCK ON PPL!!!!!

I've always liked Eddie Money for some reason. Never saw him live, but I've heard good things from other people that saw him. It's really cool you got to socialize with the band. That must have been a blast...

I like Eddie Money.

Especially after he came out with "Take Me Home Tonight" in 1986, and I learned of the respect he had for Ronnie Spector (famed singer of The Ronettes), and how this song was a nod to her, and he had hoped she would do the lead part he wrote into it for her... "Be my little Baby" which is a copy basically of the chorus of The Ronettes hit... "Be My Baby"

Ronnie Spector accepted, and was thrilled to be back in the limelight after a long absence. And this basically created new interest in her career and her history. She was very grateful for Eddie Money for including her in this. I happened to see them together on several talk shows discussing it at the time, and truly, Eddie was a fan of hers, and I never forgot about that.

It was a very cool and unselfish thing to do for someone, so Eddie Money was always cool in my book after that.

Now the REALLY interesting parts...

Image

Ronnie Spector of course, was the former wife of Phil Spector! Legendary producer and engineer with his coined "WALL OF SOUND" technique for layering instruments and sounds, and also more recently... convicted murderer and all around psychotic. During their marriage, Ronnie had been kept a LITERAL prisoner of Phil in their mansion, in which he reportedly showed her a gold coffin with a glass top in their home one day, and told her that if she ever left him, he would murder her and keep her in that coffin on display for himself.

She finally escaped and wrote a book about her experiences.

What many won't remember, is that this very single... "Take Me Home Tonight" had a B-Side (it was still vinyl 45's then) which was called... "Calm Before the Storm" and one of the writers on this song, happened to be, none other than Phil Spector himself!

So, his ex-wife is on the hit single side, and her ex-husband Phil was on the B-Side as a writer. The song is titled "Calm Before the Storm" and yes, boy did it turn out to be a long calm, with a strong storm to follow, as nearly 2 decades later, this guy would be convicted of the very act he had threatened Ronnie with, decades earlier, namely, murdering a woman he was apparently trying to control or at least frighten, with a gun he kept handy.

Thought everyone might get a kick out of that little trivia. ;-)

I had the priveledge of seeing Eddie Money about 4-5 yrs ago. He was excellent. He had this short little guitarist with the 50's look - slicked back hair, sleaveless shirt smoking a cig as he played - & he was very good. He also had a sleepy bass player, who had a 5-string Carvin, but barely played it. He didn't work the audience as much as was reported here, but it was still a good show.

I saw Dr Hook, like, 15 yrs ago. I think seeing him might shock you a bit. He's basically blind, I think. They walked him out to the stage. He was still pretty good, but looked like a corpse. He had one original member with him when I saw them - the sax player. He still had the chops, too.

I have always wanted to see Steppenwolf, as I consider them to be a highly underrated band in the history of r&r, & I think John Kay is a great blues rock singer. Saw them on tv a few yrs ago & he's still got it.

Two Tickets To Paradise was in the set list of many of my early bands.

I saw him at the Midsouth Coliseum years ago., He was a great performer then, great to hear hes still doing it.

I went and saw Meatloaf last year he was great. A buddy got me tickets to see Reo and Styx in Jonesboro the Nov 20th.

A lot of these older road warriors are better than the younger bands I go and see.

I think some things do get better with age and this includes musicians.

Everyone have a Great Day

It's hard to believe the guy can actually still draw well enough to tour. He is relegated to opening DTE (the outdoor music place here in the Detroit area) in May when the weather is still a little iffy. He's been doing that for years. This year they let him close the season as well. I think he connects with the 'everyman' type of music fan (bikers, party chicks, etc).

I was in a band that covered "Baby Hold On To Me" back in ....whenever!

Not long ago another , even older rock and roller played in our neck of the woods. Peter Tork! Yep, the 'ol Monkey is still kickin' and has himself a decent little blues band!

We used to do what I thought was one of his best songs, "Gimme Some Water". Loved doin' that slide guitar solo.

"Slap that horse in the ass, with my last dyin' gasp,
My mother could hear me say..."

I heard that Eddie Money actually wrote one of his biggest hits on toilet paper. He was using a public restroom sitting on the crapper and thought of the song and wrote it down on toilet paper. I forget the name of the song, but you have to admire somebody who can do something like that.
