Pretty interesting article. Shows some positive attributes of the modern mature smoker.

Is it possible to be a fine upstanding citizen & still use?

I know a lot of them who do. (I'm not just the pres of the club...I'm a member, too!)

I went to a party Sat nite, & I was amazed at my own indifference to the number of ppl over 40, over 50, over 60, even, smoking & sharing their personal stashes. Professional ppl alongside blue collarers beside the younger 20-somethings. 'Twas quite a mix, everything out in the open, just like the 70's in a way, yet with even less pressure, somehow. (Where'd that paranoia go?)

I got to play a bit, too, with a guy I used to be in a band with & an unknown drummer. Unforunately, he'd also gotten a bit drunk, which kinda put a damper on the music as he forgot words & chord progs...wish he'd have stuck to the smoke...

My parents never touched the stuff, and my dad would drink maybe 3 beers a year and that was only socially.
But my son's father used to be quite the pothead. :)

No, Dad would share a beer with me, well maybe once or twice a month.
He was a Merchant Marine WWII and post. He did his share of drinking then according to him. Mom would take a drink of wine, She kept a server of Mogan David in the refrigerator during the holidays season. That was it.
They did not have the factual experienced base information to educate me on drugs so I got the social BS line.
Had a car accedent in my early twenties. The insurance adjuster who was an ex cop, saw some seeds in the floorboard.
He, in a fatherly fashon took me aside and told me "that stuff will make your rape your teen age daughter". I told him "You maybe, I just smoke pot, I aint no pervert."

All the leaders of the world should get together in a big Teepee, and smoke the peace pipe. While they are all together we the people should nuke their sorry asses, and start over.

I love that. Great idea. Actually I think the old 60's commercial had the right idea, if two countries have a quarrel, put both presidents on a hill top and let them duke it out.

Anyway enough of that...back on topic...

My father was a total redneck about it, screamed and cussed at me and accused me of "doing dope" for 5 years before I ever tried it, before I ever even SAW any of it. Finally decided I'd try pot when he threatened to have me thrown in jail one night for something I'd never even seen. I figured if I'm going to jail anyway I might as well do something to get thrown in jail for...never looked back...I'll probably never stop either...but I never touch anything else, and only drink about 5 or 6 beers a year.

Rooooooooolllllllllllllllllllll another one....just like the other one....:D

I had similar experiences with my dad, Billy.

He used to check my eyes every time I walked in the front door, even in front of my friends, the bastard. Kinda humiliating. He had me so paranoid that I missed the 60's entirely, & some of the 70's, too. Didn't smoke until I was 18 for the 1st time, & didn't try it again for a long time after that - I think I was 20. Didn't notice it doing anything until my 21st b'day, when I could FINALLY relax enough to take it all in.

It never was a real important part of my life, though. These days I smoke occasionally, like once a week or less. Rarely more, & only when it's offered. I never buy or travel with it...I guess that paranoia is still with me, to a large degree.

I dont know if I would call that paranoia or wisdom Phil.
When I was in my 20s the cops in our area might take your weed.
Probably to smoke or sell on the other side of town. I have seen them shake this dudes bag out on the ground. But rarelydid I see them actually arrest anyone with an ounce or less. I had a pipe confinscated from me in a public park. It did not belong to me. I felt so bad about it, I went to the poloice station to ask for it back. They gave it back to me.
And I returned it to my friend. (was a really nice pipe)
These days one roach and your squirrel rifle in your truck and your a felon / terrorist.
Shame that. Alcoholics cause much more problems than pot heads.

Shh do not blaspheme sacred alcohol, the sky will no doubt fall on our heads.. LOL

"It is legal to drink, thus must be ok"

And no one died of drinking alcohol.. ooh, yeah that's right.... they do all the time..

LOL
I know that was satirical Cap'n.
But you know, how many parties have you been to where some beligerant drunk ruins the mood? Or passes out in the bonfire.
(damn that stinks)
Pot heads generally just want to have fun, and ...... eat. LOL

Perhaps I should have titled this thusly - "Are YOU a pot-head parent?"

LOL

We're most of us too mature to have parents who smoked...

Ah, new subject line.

Same answer though. No.

I probably would smoke occasionaly, if not for the laws infringing on my rights to do so.
Being an RN, and a conasour of fine firearms. One joint could be a Felony possession that would really screw up my life and livelyhood.
I'd like for some pinhead polatician explain to me how thats right.
I dont see anything wrong with an occasional dube.
Anymore than a cold beer, glass of wine, or shot of Tequela etc.

If I had all the money back I spent on weed in my youth I could pay off my house mortgage though.
