so I was searching craigslist to try and broker a trade for a nice combo amp... and was talkin' to this guy about his peavey classic 30...
we get to talkin' and I broker a deal to trade off this sonic 2x12 gtr cabinet.

the guys never heard of sonic, and I tell him it's loaded with eminence speakers - they sell new for $89 each - so it's worth at least $125... I decide to take the speakers out in order to take a pic and show him.... guess what I find?

it's got celestion greenbacks in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had this cab for 5 years and have another just like it. The other one, I had swapped out the stock eminence for celestion g12t's a long time ago. I just assumed this other cab had stock eminence!

just goes to show... when you assume you make an ass out of u and me.

forgive my naivity - what is the significance of green-back celestians? I gather it's an awesome thing, so congratulations, but my knowledge of speakers is less than my knowledge of nuclear physics :)

Greenbacks have a certain type of sound that some go to great lengths to acquire.

Just because I've been around them a lot, I've developed an avoidance to them

greenbacks were originally what you'd find stock in a marshal cab of 60's era, and many fender bassmans of that era. Many consider them to be the absolute top of the line afa speakers go...

anywho, I just traded them off for a peavey classic 30.

I wanted the classic 30 cause of the dual channel, switchable reverb, and fx loop. I was a bit concerned that it'd be too loud, cause it's replacing a crate v18 that was already too loud... just got home plugged it in and I'm stoked. Not only does it sound better, but it's 16ohm -so it's much less volume then my 18watt crate! and the volume control isn't nearly as finicky!

well, technically I gave him a dod yjm overdrive ($15), a ts-9 that I paid $50 for, my fuzz face home made ($100?), and the cab ($150ish)...
but I saw this exact sm amp selling at gtr center (where I met the guy) for $600 new. So all in all I think it was fair on both our ends... but I'm very happy and that's what counts.
