What to you want to do with your music?

Do you have any goals?
Can you write down 5 goals in music, right off the top of your head?
No?
Maybe you could use a little more focus . . . dunno . . .
.
If so . . .
I'd suggest making a list of all your goals for your music.
If we can't write a goal down, then we only have vague wishes - and writing it down tends to make us add more specific details to our objectives.
.
Goals, like selling your music, playing 3 shows a week, a large concert every 2 months, meeting people 'in-the-know,' having 500 new people hear your music every day, jamming with new and great musicians . . . whatever.
ANYthing you want for your music- write it down.
I'll bet you surprise yourself with what you write down.
.
Hey, get out a piece of paper and a pencil, grab a coffee, take 10 minutes of your life, and make a long list of goals.
Brainstorm, until you can't think of anything more you want to accomplish in the world of your music.
And then set a timer for 3 minutes, and try to come up with 2 MORE goals, anyway (after you'd already run out of ideas). Often, the last one or two things we write down will be an "AHA!"
. . . if you know what I mean.
.
Anyway - then go back and prioritize the goals.
Which one 1st?
Which goal has to wait until something else is accomplished?
Find out exactly, specifically what you want.
Then see what needs to be accomplished first.

1. To get everything that I have written to date out of my skull, recorded the best that I can do.
2. Have fun with my music, fun leads to other things.
3. Join/Start a band and play live ~ no garage bands. :)
4. Use my music for another project that I have in the fire. :?:
5. Prove the genre I love so much is not dead. (Tough call).

Good post as usual RM.
Thanks.

Chippy.

1) Record a legitimate CD
2) Create a simple user-friendly website, minimal words to read, a few pictures, make it easy and crystal clear how to get a hold of us, a few demo songs to listen to, info on ordering the CD, keep it simple stupid.
3) Produce a promo pack consisting of a business card, 4-song demo (already have it), brief one-page band description, K.I.S.S.
4) Market the CD on very inexpensive websites (jangoairplay?)
5) CONTINUOULSY market ourselves on FREE local websites (Craig's List, Backpage.com)
6)Bring CD's to SELL at gigs
7) Figure out something else to SELL at gigs (beads, hats, shirts)
8) Pursue gigs:
3-4 weekend gigs per month at local dives. Find one we regularly play at once a month (last Saturday of each month, second Friday of each month, whatever)
Benefit shows- No skin off our back free shows, don't have to haul equipment, play one set in front of MANY people, and then LEAVE
County fairs, town celebration days- Same concept as benefit show except make $300 or more for a one hour set
8) Continuously pursue FREE radio play
9) Get free PR wherever and whenever possible
10) Network more with local excellent musicians. Invite them to all our shows and encourage them to bring axes and sit in with us for a FEW songs. They usually bring their friends. This is NOT promoting a jam session. This is having people I know who PLAY WELL who can add something positive to our sound and bring additional revenue to the venues we play at (I want to get asked back).
11) NOT into jam sessions. Too much playing for little or no money. Also too much playing with amateurs. I prefer KNOWING that we're going to sound good ALL THE TIME. Might be a weak point in my marketing plan but so be it.

I want, I want, I want....sounds like you guys need to pray a little louder, the big guy's a little hard of hearing.

The only true path to happiness is to be free of want.

Sounds like the path of boredom to me. Indifference. Apathy.

Goals are what drive us to ACT.

It's hard to tell on this medium but I was being facetious Colors. I want to go hiking in the mountains, I want a piece of key lime pie, I want a better job (or a blow job, I can't decide). See I want stuff.

I just want to play a blues set live in a casual setting like a cafe' or lounge bar before I die. If that happens, I'll be happy. If not, I'll be happy anyways cause I'm just a happy kindof guy.
