I went rummaging through packrat heaven (my house) a few days ago looking for my long disused Weller soldering gun - you know, the old 100/140 watt job with its own light that's been around for years...mine is at least 40 years old - and discovered a copy of Gear magazine from June 2002 in a box that I'd forgotten about. In it was a page with a few crazy news stories I thought I might share. These are all supposedly true.

Truth is stranger than fiction....

Suspected Palm Beach serial burglar Michael Daniel Camerota kept silent during police interrogation until he told detectives: "If you buy me a pizza I'll tell you everything I know". They did and he confessed to almost 50 crimes.

After throwing her 3 foot long pet iguana at a local pub bouncer, a 47 year old English woman was convited of animal cruelty. Both iguana and bouncer have reportedly recovered.

After an Argentinian man was told he couldn't withdraw his savings - the country's bank only laws allow small withdrawals during economic crises - he returned to the bank with a hand grenade and robbed it, but took only the money in his account.

I'll have what he's drinking:
Michael Kocur of upstate New York pleaded guilty to drunk driving after being pulled over last summer for riding his lawn mower on an interstate highway. When asked for his licence he said " I didn't think I needed one to ride a lawnmower."

Crooks in a stolen Krispy Kreme truck led police on a 15 mile chase that ended with their capture and doughnuts spilling onto the road. New Orleans police spokesman Lt. Rob Callahan has grown tired of the inevitable jokes: "Everyone has to make their cute little remarks, like 'Did the officers eat any of the evidence?'".

And my favorite...

Researchers have discovered that exposure to Atrazine, the most commonly used weed killer in North America, causes frogs to grow both male and female sex organs. Not Good...

Just in case you're interested, a good article on Atrazine and some of its problems is here:

and you thought the EPA was on YOUR side...yeah right...

Damn! & we've been wondering why the frogs seem to be disappearing!

Good stuff, Billy!
