two short solos

Hey everyone
I've been really busy with VNB and gigging, etc.. and with the CT creeping in and slowly destroying my life, I've not recorded in months, but I found some stuff I did last spring and while there wasn't much salvageable I did manage to play a few things not-so-bad lol.

I added two short solo-runs to my profile- descriptions as follows:

YYZ Solo(2009) - Me playing the solo for YYZ using a fairly cheesy backing track. It did the job hah. I wasn't happy with the mix, or the recording as a whole, but figured I would salvage the solo, which is passable.

Dorian001 (2009) - Using another generic backing track designed specifically for soloing practice, I used the dorian scale, as the name indicates. I liked some of the runs I did, as they are really slick and fast, and completely a step away from my usual style, so I split out my favorite part (was a 10 minute solo wank initially)

Enjoy

Thanks Sans-

Funny thing is, that's me practicing self-indulgence lol-

Here's what I'm really doing on stage, which is 1000% different than what I wank to at home! (also added to profile now):

I dont know anything about Christina Aguilera other than hearing the name. But that was very nicely done.
Is that sweet white semihollow body behind you yours?

love the first 15 seconds of the dorian based song... great phrasing...
IMHO repeat that phrase first in dorian (like u did) then in natural minor and it's a 10. Honestly... I don't care for the 'noodling' thereafter - just my honest opinion.
the phrase only locks in to dorian at :06... you descend using a repeated motif and that part would really sound great back to back agains the sm riff in natural minor (one note dif - I know).

Kramer, there's times I really wish I could play like that. My mind can't think that fast, & I get all tripped up on my own clumsiness.

Sounding good. Take care of the CT.

hmm I have to dig up that backing track and try some nat minor stuff, didn't really think to try that.

And yeah, the noodling was a lot of repeat, I was just in Yngwie mode, in the sense that I was giddy just about being able to play that fast (finally) and not really focused on the actual phrasing as much as senseless wanking.

I actually thought my phrasing in the first half was ... odd. I've always had that rather odd / quirky style in my phrasings, was never sure if it was just my own garbled style that is unique, or if I just wasn't as good as the real pros lol. I keep myself entertained, that's for sure!

Thanks, and why yes, that's my epiphone DOT. Pretty simple model, VERY warm tone, in fact, too warm for that kind of music, but I need it for one original we do that I tune to Eb on, and as a backup, in case the kramer pops a string (hard to swap new string fast on a floyd rose guitar lol).

again, the "noodling" wasn't bad at all... it's just that the phrasing at front could really be developed into something... then u can noodle up a solo 20 bars in...

oh and the yyz solo is good too... must'v taking quite a bit of time to memorize all that - nice job.

oh, and when I didn't list you in my fantasy band(thread)... that was merely an oversight - I hope you won't hold that against me.

no worries Mike- I said in that thread that I wouldn't have listed myself lol. There's far better and more promising talent here regardless. People like Neanderpaul deserve that kind of kudos, not me :)

Iono, you have my vote. Very nice noodling actually. It's one thing being fast. It's another being fast and coming off smooth, which you do. I might not be able to play that good, but I know good when I hear it.

Yeah the CT is destroying my life at the moment, they gave me a steroid shot/cortizone that has allowed me to put off the eventual surgery for a couple of months, but it's stopped me from doing much of anything outside of gigging as needed and rehearsals.

Oddly enough, I can still solo fairly well, it's the bar chords that hurt the most :|
