Years ago I discovered Tom Barabas on one of the cable music stations (Zen station?). I play a gritty style of blues and I sing a shouting style of blues vocals. I do listen to a wide variety of genres, I just happen to run across Tom Barabas. It's the first time in my life any musician made me cry. People who know me probably wouldn't believe somebody like Barabas would have that kind of effect on me. His piano playing is so stunningly beautiful. His virtuosity is so uplifting. If you think you're really hot on your instrument and you want to be humbled listen to Tom Barabas. If you want to relax listen to Tom Barabas. If you know anybody who loves classical piano get them a Tom Barabas CD. I went on Youtube and plugged in Tom Barabas hoping there might be a Youtube video of him. To my very pleasant surprise I found three of them. I don't know how to put a link to him on here (computer dumbass that I am) but you can get to the Youtube videos on www.new.music.yahoo.com/tom-barabas or you can search on Yourtube for Tom Barabas Solar Wind Romantic Rhapsodies. The youtube video for Solar Wind is spectacular. What a nice way to end a very long day of hard work and soggy disc golf....

Very nice. I am classically trained and I enjoyed listeining to one of his classical/ New Age CD. I want to hear more. Perhaps tomorrow I will surf thru other pieces of his. I am a fan of most musical genres and I am enjoying this.

Glad you liked it. Are you familiar with Dean Evenson? He is an amazing floutist (flute player) who has collaborated on a number of different projects with Tom Barabas. By the way, both Evenson and Barabas have Myspace music pages: www.myspace.com/tombarabas and www.myspace.com/deanevenson. There's some excellent MP3's on Barabas' page. I used to listen to the New Age/ Zen music stations on cable television. A lot of it sounds very background, repetititve, frankly boring. One day me and the wife are in the kitchen and a Tom Barabas tune comes on and we both drop what we're doing and go into the living room and say "Who's that?" I know almost immediately when I hear a Barabas song just by the tone he plays with. There's magic in his hands...

I believe that many of us loud- assed 'ol blues rockers like to kick back with some mellow muzak once in a while.

I noticed the flutist but no, I am not familiar with Dean Evenson. But I do have various genres of music in my stash. I don't listen or play just one or 2 syles of music. As a matter of fact I Used to play in a rock band once a month and a Celtic band twice a month.. I was listening to Metallica's S and M CD in my car. I should play something classical in my car.

Tom Barabas reminds me of George Winston.

Oh what do you know, I mentioned George Winston too. Aren't you the one who also remembers Osibisaw ( sp ?) back in the day???

I would like to add that if you want to hear one of George WInston's funkier pieces, chech outh "Carol of the Bells". I use to have this album back in the '80s.
