Ha I seem to have missed all the mudslinging on here recently. Whats up with that and what did I miss?

Last thursday jammed with some new folks. I dont think there is any future in it but it was fun.

Friday night Brooks the drummer from AYM and friend gal and I went to Jackson TN. I put on one of our t-shirts. We hit Codys for some big fat ribeyes, then went to Luckys. They had a band there and everyone seemed to know us. Felt like a celebrity. We got invited to play a song. When I was getting the guitar from the guitarist he asked my name. I told him and it turns out that our sons had raced motocross in the local circuit for a few years. In fact we would camp out and his wife would feed us grilled chicken at the races, small world. We played TNT with the band Funky Finger and rocked the house. We hung around a while and played pool. Then went to The Downtown Tavern where another group I know The Memphis Yahoo's were playing. Didnt get to play but their bassist is a booking agent for a club we play in Memphis and made a big deal out of us being there. Thats way cool to get some sort of acknowledgement for playing. We then hit up another club called Barleys that we play some. They had an interesting band called The Grove. 7 members playing sortof grove rock. These guys would just go between songs one after the other and 4 of them were lead singers at one point or another. They covered a lot of musical ground and finished with a version of Billy Jean in homage to MJ. It was a long night but a lot of fun.

Sat, me and a friend gal headed to Roller Derby, the TN state championships. It was between Nashville, Knoxville and Memphis. Nashville wound up winning. In between bouts they had bands. The first was the River City Tanlines, punk rock in all its glory. The second break had The Subteens another punk rock band. Before the final bout local rapper Al Kapone came out and revved up the crowd. After the bouts the 2 MVP players get paddles and paddle each other, while the crowd chants "Whup That Chick, Whup That Chick". It was a pretty interesting day. Some of you looking for places for original music might look into your local Roller Derby scene, especially if you have a female in the band.

Sunday a guitarist friend of mine called and invited me to sit in with their band for practice. I got reunited with a singer I knew from my metal days. This group has drums, bass, keys, gtr and a singer. I had a lot of fun and played a lot of stuff I havent heard or played in years. Im used to playing in a 3 piece where I have to really fill up a lot of space and in this I could just complement the other players. They actually recorded a few songs, and they sounded really good. Lots of vocal harmonys. They kinda hinted at me joining them, but 6 people is a lot of people in a group. And thier guitarist is really good. I dont know what I could add to the band.

Monday night took a overnight trip to Mountain Home Ark to see a 96 yr old aunt who was in town from Oregon. They kinda tripped out when my mom told them I played guitar in a band.

Tuesday night went in the recording studio and laid down an old song I wrote years ago. I got all the rythym guitars, vocals and noise tracks done. Just need to get a live drummer in and get it mixed.

I guess why Im sharing is that I read peoples post on here about playing music and the lack of players. All I can say is get busy, they are out there looking for you. You just have to find each other. I dont think you will find a lot of local players here, you need to make the effort to get into your local scene and find people doing whatever it is you want to do, and then just do it.

Have a Great Day! And Keep On Rockin!

You too, George.

I think if you really want to play, you have to always be on the hunt for good musicians to surround yourself with. You are what you eat! If you eat a lot of crap you kind of turn yourself into crap.

You're so right, JW. I've been in a rut for a long time, but I haven't really gone out & tried to meet a lot of ppl, mostly cuzza my present situation with the lil kid. I'm hoping to change that, soon,

In the meantime, it's good to know that the rest of ya havemn't stopped playing & going out & meeting new musos & such.

Have at it & make it fun.

We are tentivly booked for a local jam in the park here in Kilgore for Sept 12th. Going to be kind of short. Four hours to squeeze in 8 acts.
But what the heck, should have some radio adds to include our band name as well.
I was a little hesitant myself due to the supposed mix of HIP HOP and ROCK bands and the short play time but the boys said go for it.
When I have more info I will post it up on the Noisy Kung Fu Music thread.

Also someone apparently is leasing one of the two old defunct theaters downtown. And with some arrangement with the City, are going to convert to a music venue. :D
Could be some interesting months ahead for NKF
