Need experienced (by that I mean experienced) players that may have retired from music and have found that itch again. Macon Ga.

WOW.... that's me in a mouthful... stopped playin' in'87.... sold all my sh¡t... gave up on it altogether... until the wifey went out and bought me an Epiphone les paul and a little line6 for Xmas '06.... I just sat there and looked at it for about a week and picked it up on New Years Eve of '07... What a blast.... New Years day, went to the store and bought me an acoustic... had that whole week off and started right up again with all my exercises and scales and stuff and haven't put it down since.... No less than 5 hours a day... every freakin' day... well... only 3 hours on X-mas and Thanksgiving... But enough about me... Howz the weather over there, Chum?

Yeah, I think a lot of us have been there at one point, you'll find a lot of people in the same boat, you play bar gigs for years and years for little money and don't seem to go anywhere and once you get married and have kids, coming home from gigs in nearby states at 7am and only having 40 bucks in your pocket to show for it doesn't go over to well with the family. At that point...if you are still playing ...it's not for the women or the money...or the free beer....although we do like free beer, we don't drink nearly as much of it now as we did back when we were 22
I took some time off myself from gigging, never selling all my gear...but it did give me time to work on new stuff and technique and work in a studio for a few years. My cousin Barry inspired me to go back into playing out again after seeing his success switching from guitar to bass and touring with Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, UFO, Dokken, Nugent, Malmsteen.
It's much easier going back and having a perspective of what you want to do when you are older, I play in some bar bands on the side with older friends and we just book gigs that make good money so we can have fun on the weekends since all the members of those bands have 9-5 jobs and also playing in multiple bands. We have it set up so if I have other bigger gigs and can't make gigs with that band, I have a temp replacement...just in case.

WOW.... and I thought I was the ONLY one that was going through this...LOL
I too did My far share of "THE-ROAD" back in the day. than I got married, kids came along and had to put down the dream and face the "music" and get a full time job. well the marrige ( as My Music) did not work out so from 84-94 I did not play. than I came across a 80's TAMA ROCKSTAR DBL Bass 10 piece set for $250.00 complete with EVERYTHING, started to play 3 hours a day than got into a band and was doing well until 2nd divorce....sold it and moved to West Texas, been here 6 years have a BEAUTIFUL 8 Piece Yamaha Rock Tour Custom kit ( 8 ply BIRCH/MAHOGANY complete on a Gibraltar 2-tier rack/cage. now that I have been trying to get back into things I am finding it harder...could it be My age? am at the point now that I am thinking of just giving it up as I have auditioned for a few bands ,given song lists, work My ass off on them only to find out that they went with a "younger" drummer that lived closer. ???????? but after reading/writing this post I believe I shall hang in there as I know out there ( locally) someone is looking for a bluesy type that can play the 80's stuff like no other.
ROCK ON!!!!!

Well.... the music scene is much different than it was 20 years...although the pay is still the same!!
Lot less places to play these days, but I find it's easier to book gigs if you get your 3 sets together with a good promo pack and a demo and a simple website.
I also find it easier to learn songs extremely fast, gone are the days we sat there with a tape recorder hitting rewind and play over and over to figure out a lyric or a chord, everything you need to know on how to play any cover song is on the web..need lyrics, Google it, need tabs? Google it, want to see how a solo is played...check youtube, want to hear just the background vocals of a song, check out the Karaoke version of the song on youtube.
Plus it's much easier to sell music now, there are sites you can sell your music for soundtracks and commercials, lots of places to post music and sell as well. I think you will find a LOT of musicians that get to 40 and just want to get back to playing music and hanging out with good people.
Good luck with your search, Open Mic nights are a great place to meet up with other musicians as well.

Also...ask around at the local music store or post an add there as well as bandmix, you might be surprised how many people are in the same boat.

Corky! After all this time! Man! I think about you and Grace a lot. It's Jim! I was 19 and was staying with you and Grace in Nashville back in 1970 when I joined the Marine Corps. I've since retired from the Corps. I've tried to find info on you guys many times over the years and never did. Hope you and Grace are still around, bro. Holler.
