Too much knowledge for us to process?

Is the accumulation of knowledge advancing too far for us to safely use it and benefit by it? There's SO MUCH of everything any more, I get a headache just thinking about it. I heard the internet will one day grind to a complete halt because the increased data on it will one day cause it to hopelessly crash. Are humans going to suffer the same fate? Will our genetic research for example lead to a race of people who cannot survive without medical intervention? Will we make ourselves helpless in our own world? Everything is getting BIGGER and MORE COMPLICATED. We're being bombarded by MORE and MORE advertising for example. I see advertising for drugs on television and it doesn't even say what the drug is for. Are hundreds of thousands of people going to doctors and asking for a drug they know nothing about? How is it possible that one man (Bernie Madoff) is able to steal over 60 BILLION dollars from people without anybody knowing he's doing it? Are we becoming not in tune with ANYTHING? Are we losing complete contact with the world around us? IN ESSENCE ARE WE LIKE LEMMINGS RUNNING HEADLONG OFF A CLIFF?

... I like the part after the drug commercials when they quickly warn you about the possible side effects including possible "exploding diareah" and "possible death"

Eh...I'm not too worried, personally.

#1 - I look at the web as if it were some sort of ever-expanding encyclopoedia with way too much erroneous info, so I try to look at things I see there with a grain of salt...

#2 - I only use drugs for recreation, so I ignore all of those big claims for questionable meds on TV. I figure I can wait until the guinea pig public has tested them all before I try anything new...

#3 - Me & mine will never get "smart" enough to evolve into heads in jars who need meds & electricity to survive...

#4 - Much of the "new" info provided on the web has always been there, just waiting to be discovered by some curious george. Just because it's posted out there doesn't mean it's an integral part of my life. Why should I care what Michelle Obama's wearing this week, or whether or not Brittney Spears is a good mommy? There's a gazillion words on the web I'll never ever read or care about...

#5 - Ppl like ol' B. Maddoff have always been out there, collecting vast sums at the public expense. He wasn't the 1st & he won't be the last. All we can do is hope it doesn't happen to us, & try to live simple lives. The more we complicate things, the easier it becomes for us to be taken to the cleaners by someone smarter than we are. I reckon that if I just keep living my dumbed down lifestyle, nobody will want the lttle I have, cuz it's just too little to bother with. When that changes, well, I have my guns to fall back on...heh heh heh

Mam has misused information and technology since the discovery of fire.
Hell even I have abused toilet paper by decorating trees with it.
You are a deep and contemplative man Bob. But we have this saying in my family, I have raised all my children on these two facts.
Jesus saves!
People are stupid!

An nurse friend of mine exponded on this at work yesterday, she said.
Jesus saves, beer is good, and people are stupid.
AMEN, crack a cold one and pass the ammo Phil.

I guess this is like a great big juggernaut, somehow it keeps moving forward....

Crip, I like the warning about an erection lasting over 4 hours. Am I really going to see my doctor about that? Doc, I have a problem....

I feel like we are way over medicated. Im sure there are folks who really need some sort of medication, but most folks just need to learn to eat the right foods and do positive stuff, of course this is my opinion.

On a personal level, John has nailed it.

But I think Bob has a valid concern.

The problem is, there may not be much that can be done about it.

Mankind has approached a technological understanding that can now wipe us out completely, or send society back to the stone age.

And not just from something like nuclear weapons!

1) Somewhere in the world, humans have already been cloned. They have experienced issues already with animals that have been cloned. What happens when humans are? Not much initially, but their offspring. Does it endanger others, as this selective DNA process spreads?

2) There are weapons and research into new energies, that have the potential to unleash amounts of energy we have NEVER seen before. This could be good, yet, what about accidents? In 2010 a super laser will be tested. Actually 192 massive lasers will be focused onto one pea-sized capsule of fuel, heating it to 180 MILLION degrees Fahrenheit, creating a thermonuclear fusion. It will produce more energy than the sun's core, which is "only" 27 Million Fahrenheit.

3) Crops were grown with a human birth control ingredient, accomplished through some sort of DNA manipulation. They tested the crops in a field in America. But nature being what it is, birds and wind, etc... carried the seeds of this crop to as much as 30 miles away from the test field. THIS HAPPENED KIDS! Why wasn't it front page news? Has this now seeped into our food supply? Who was "birth controlling crops" designed for? Americans? Third world countries? Was America trying to control the birthrate in other countries as some means of staving off starvation or something else? Without telling them? These questions aren't being asked, or answered! THAT ALONE should scare the hell out of everyone here, when most likely, EVERYONE HERE gets their food from the supermarket mostly.

4) We are so dependent on technology now, on electricity on computers. Stoplights that control traffic. Computers that help control airplanes, and defense systems, etc... The military is now working on weapons that can be focused over an entire city or even country, and knock out ALL POWER in a single blow. Imagine the electricity going off, computers off, signal lights off, train crossing lights, air traffic control towers, EVERYTHING, all off in a single blast. Maybe even worse, is the testing of Haarp being planned, which when put into effect, can heat parts of the ATMOSPHERE so it is literally raised and falls back down. They aren't positive what will happen when they do this, but they are going to try it out anyway. This project alone, Haarp, is believed to have the ability eventually, to control weather itself over areas chosen, and possibly even influence thought patterns in the human brain from the resulting waves produced. Imagine controlling the minds, to some degree, of an entire population, maybe confusing them all, or making them more docile somehow. They are literally working on this, no joke!

http://www.haarp.net/

How about weapons that can kill all people in a selected area, but leave the buildings standing and untouched. What stops a racist from deciding that an entire African country can be eliminated, and leave the city's buildings there for the using? What stops a powerful group of wealthy Muslims from deciding that the same should be done to the infidels in America?

Do you guys understand what we are approaching here?

These are not science fiction tales, or possibilities for some distant future, 100 years from now.

Some of these very weapons and systems, are in testing phases, NOW!

Cloned ppl? Overly hot weaponry? Over-genetificated food? Weather warfare?

DAMMIT, Craig! See, that's what I've been trying to avoid all these years by not looking up all the strange stuff on the net. But nnnnnnnooooooooooo! You had to expose me to it all & bust up my lil bubble of mental safety, didn't ya? Now I'm gonna hafta go & get some of them meds so's I don't hafta worry about it all...

Time to return to the relative safety of my under-the-rock den ("e-den") & try once again to avoid it all...

Bottom line is we don't know the math. Introducing ONE cloned will affect everyone HOW? Producing ONE weapon that destroys only living creatures and not inanimate objects will affect everyone HOW? We don't know the math. The birth control fertilizer that spread outside the test area will affect everyone HOW? WE DON'T KNOW. When the Japanese attacked China in the 1930's they spread bubonic plague there. There are still pockets of plague in China today. We simply cannot predict what we are doing to this Earth. We cannot process the knowledge because we don't know all the factors involved. WE DON'T KNOW THE MATH. God only knows the math. We're better off leaving it up to Him.
