Which name would you prefer?

The band has been going through this discussion for a while now. One problem we've been having is that a lot of people don't know how to spell or say HaleAmano. And really have a hard time remembering it.

We've had our name spelled HALEMANO- HALOMANO- HAILMANO-HALEOMANO, more time than not. It's pretty rare these days for any random venue to spell our name right on fliers.

The name is pronounced (ha-lay-ah-mon-o), and most people say (hail-ee-a-man-o) or (hail-mon-o) or (hail-ee-mon-o) even when we're being introduced by announcers at our bigger shows.

Some of the guys in the band are frustrated by it. It becomes a real battle to get people to remember our name, even 5-seconds after you tell them. "What is it again??" "How do you say that?" "can you spell that for me again?"

Some people in the band don't think it's a big deal, while others do think it's a big deal. There are a couple of guys who think it's too hard for an average person to say, because it looks like a Spanish word to them (even though it's Hawaiian). We even have a member of our band who is from Mexico, and he says that actually in Spanish "Haleamano" translates to "pull with your hand", which a term used to describe masturbation.

So there are people in the band who want to consider calling the band HOUSE OF THE SHARKS to make it easier for English speaking people to say, spell, and remember. And there are others who think the name would be too long, thus, just as hard to remember and don't like the idea.

I want to put the question to the Bandmixers.

Which name would you prefer if you were in this band?

Heh, heh, I like the Lone Sharks. But of the names that were given in the poll House of the Sharks is the easiest to rmeember AND spell. You want your band's name to have these qualities for the sake of bookings and PR. You don't want to see your name spelled incorrectly in the newspaper.

HaleAmano has a flair and a ring to it that fits the musical style.

Try a handle like Noisy Kung Fu for a year and it will be a no brainer.

Some good responses so far. Thanks for all of your input. It's nice to have some unbiased opinions.

Chippy and JD, I take it your answers are none of the above. Hahaha.

We do needs some outside views on the issue. I posted the question in another forum as well. One thing I'm noticing is that people like saying "HOUSE OF SHARKS" with the word "the" omitted from the name in the poll. It is something to keep note of.

The other thing I'm noticing is that the opinions are basically split 50/50 so far between the 2 names. Hahaha. Which is why we are having this dilemma ourselves.

Question.

Why the need?

We're just trying to get an outside unbiased perspective on the 2-names. This isn't gonna create any final decision. But to some in the band, it's getting real tiring to always explain our name 5-times over to the same person sometimes. Believe it or not, there are even Hawaiians who can't say it and misspell it.

There are people who have the idea that it doesn't matter. That if the music is good, the name will take shape along with it. And people will remember it.

There are others who would call that ideal foolish. That a band who is starting out should have a name that immediately sticks in peoples heads and is easy to remember even if they don't happen to like the music.

So the need for an outside perspective is just something to help us understand how the 2 names are perceived. It's not meant to be an "IN YOUR FACE!! I TOLD YOU SO!!" kind of thing for the bandmembers to get out of this question.

The 2-forums I posted this on have very honest people who I trust their opinions are real.

By the way, there are now 4-different people between the 2- forums that think it should be Sharkhouse (JD wasn't alone on that thought). It's also something else that will be noted. We're keeping an open mind with this question. It doesn't mean we're looking for a ton of suggestions for a new band name, but that is one that's starting to pop up between random people.

Don't see a problem?
Glad you saved the cats!

Names are welded upon those whom people favour.
Peace.
